Octavia 2014 occasionally doesn't start

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, I have a 2014 octavia automatic elegance.

the issue i have is that it sometimes doesnt start on the first time. its not like in a certain weather or time of the day or anything it just doesnt start no matter how much ive drove it for. Sometimes even after driving it for 4-5 hours then it doesnt start. Its like it wants to start but mid way it stops.

Diagnostic showed camshaft sensor faulty which i did replaced hoping its gonna fix the issue but the car still doesnt start on the first time.

its driving me crazy lol

any help would be much much appreciated

thank you everybody

Could be crankshaft position sensor and cam sensor needs to be in time with each other might be the issue

Currently diagnostic shows no faults could it still be the crankshaft even tho it shows no errors?

also please what do you mean by

Thank you

Probably going to be crank/cam correlation which would indicate a problem with timing.

Does this mean that my timing belt is faulty ? This cant be as ive replaced timing belt 2-3 months ago

Usually yes, did you follow the recommendation in the Skoda service manual? But it could be down to variable camshaft problems etc.

Hi everyone thanks for all your reply.

is it deffo the timing belt? As a garage replaced it back in april this yr. my car has 150k miles on. Replaced the camshaft sensor and now diagnostic show only o2 sensor faulty. Could it be also the crankshaft even tho its not showing on computer?

could it be also the alternator or anything else?

thank you very much everybody.

Did the fault manifest before or after the cam belt replacement?

The crankshaft sensor is working as there is no fault code, its output is the reference for the other sensors, by its nature it will report TDC (maybe BDC) precisely, MTWRALLYE is speaking of an incoherence between the reported positions of the crankshaft and camshaft suggesting that it has been mistimed, I would expect that to show a fault code if the engine is not starting because of it.

Its very difficult to make any sensible suggestions when you have not said what engine your vehicle has or even if it is petrol or diesel, also what fault diagnostic equipment is being used.

Hi, sorry about that that fault came after cambelt replacement. First it would not start once a week now it does it every day couple of times.

Regarding the diagnostic tools its the garages heres a pic of it

Battery voltage doesn't look that healthy. Is that reading with the engine running?

Its with the engine off.

Take it back to the garage or if you don't trust them then correct the cam timing yourself.
