Hi guys, forgive me but what is the story with the timing belt and water pump on this engine? I've read it requires specialist equipment? So I take it that's not the usual cam locking tool? 

 

I had a look and skoda offer fixed price for £973, does this include the waterpump? 

 

Any one got a 1.5 tsi act and had the timing belt replaced?

Did you not read that from 13 months ago the Recommendation / Guidelines / Advice or Schedule from Skoda / VW UK is no longer 5 years or 50,000 miles.

 

The Water Pump would not be included in the £973 if you want to have the cam belt done.  But then the water pump does not need doing.

Nice fixed price from them,

did they advise on the new schedule? Or not mention that?

Nah what it was I just bought one yesterday... 19 plate with 33k on it. Full skoda history - 1.5tsi dsg. Drove it back from Glastonbury to Glasgow...400 miles approx and it ran at 58mpg. I was well impressed. I had seen somewhere about the 5yr thing being scrapped. I phoned my local dealership (hamilton) and they advised 5yr or 140k. Phoned Glasgow and they said fitted for life but said their recommendation would be change about 100-120k. 

 

When you say the waterpump doesn't need done? Does it not run off the same system on this engine?

Aaa  Parks of Hamilton.   I would seriously advise you avoid. 

 What they do not know at their service desk is really amazing considering how long they have been a Dealership.

 

I suppose it will need to be Henrys you use.     Sir Arnolds being as trusted as Parks. 

 

If you can find a good Independent VW Specialist.

Ideally it won't be near the main dealership.... it was just reading along the lines of the timing belt tool and it apparently not being as straight forward.

It is straight forward for the trained but takes quite a few hours and the equipment cost them lots.

So leave as is.

 

& the DQ200 DSG has no service interval. Requirements.

 

But have the spark plugs changed at 40,000 miles, look at the Air Filter and change when needed, do not leave 6 years until checked.

Pollen filter check now. .

What is in the FSH?

Was the pollen filter changed in 2021, 2023?

Were the spark plugs replaced at 4 years so 2023? 

Was the brake fluid changed in 2022? 

 

That is a History of Full Dealer Servicing to the Manufacturers Guidelines, Recommendations or Schedule if they were.

Does the gear box not need done every 40k? 

Not if the car is a FWD with a 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG.  a DQ200.  (There are 2 oils. in the MCU and in the box.)

 

If it was to have a 7 speed Wet Clutch DSG a DQ381 that would be @ 80,000 miles but i would not leave it that long. (& there is a filter to change,)

Did Parks of Hamilton say @ 40,000 miles?

I'm not sure, the paper work was a print out from the 'skoda authorised network' 

 

I'm gonna get the car a full service at 40k, sparks pollen Air etc done. Garage I bought from have just done oil and filter service but I'll do that again at 40k

 

This is the thing with a Full Skoda History, or Full Main Dealer Service History. 

 It can be a History of them not doing things according to a Skoda Schedule.   Not a Full History of everything getting done as per a Skoda Schedule.

Because a FWD 1.5 TSI ACT has a 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG.   

I just know this stuff because i do not work at Skoda Dealers Service Desks.

This is fixed service regime. & not accurate, as you see now by Cam Belt & DSG.

Jeez you'd think they'd just have upto date information, otherwise you end up guessing at it. Very confusing lol. I don't even care what needs done etc. I run my cars as "if it needs it, it gets it" and usually use genuine parts or OEM. My first ownership of a dsg.... but couldn't believe how well it drove and also how economical it was. Just hope it's reasonable around town etc

It's at the other end of the engine

No, on the EA211 engine (1.4 & 1.5 TSI)  the water pump is on the opposite end of the engine so there is no need or benefit having it changed at the same time as the cambelt.

Ideal so basically change it when it goes...what's the deal with bleeding these systems? Do I need software or the old typical fill the reservoir and let it release air itself?

To avoid issues caused by air locks in the cooling system, I understand that, as a minimum, vacuum filling is required.

You could do with some software to operate all the valves and pumps to bleed it, vacuum bleeding isn't mandatory.
