Kodiaq Rubbing/Scraping noise

Featured Replies

Hi guys, got an issue with my Kodiaq 2021 2.0tdi 4x4 200bhp automatic. I'm getting a rubbing/ grinding noise when de-accelerating, happens in neutral too, however if i press the throttle in, it disappears, as soon as i let go of the throttle i can hear it. Its rotational sound. I've tried jacking the side up and spinning the wheel but i can't get enough speed on it to hear it.

Video attached of the sound. I've checked the metal plate behind brake disks and also checked the cover over the driveshaft and they're no where near. Doesn't disappear when braking unless i heavy brake then it does go away.

Ive recorded the sound and uploaded it online if this helps.

Flywheel?

Welcome to the forum.

How many miles has it done, and have you had it from new and has this just started recently?

What servicing has your Kodiaq had so far?

Has it had a brake fluid change, has it had a MOT done yet?

Maybe not related but have you had the Haldex Service yet?

Doesn’t the flywheel stop when it’s in neutral? Car has done 18k miles, 2021, been serviced but has no warranty left. Brake fluid not been changed but don’t think that would affect it. Had a MOT recently but nothing spotted. I’ve handed into the garage so will see what they find.

Please let us know how you get on with the dealer?

I will do, i’m dropping it off to a local reputable garage rather than the ‘stealers’ as it’s out of warranty.

@Haiderali123 Has the Haldex been serviced?

I've also started to have a noise (doesn't sound the same as yours though)

Mine is like a rattle between 20 and 30mph. Noise can go if I steer right, but as soon as I steer back left and stay straight it returns. Doesn't do it all the time, usually when it's cold. Sounds like something is loose.

Noise will go if I hit breaks (my first thought was brakes grinding)..

Also does it if i put into neutral whilst coasting .

I've searched forums and main things return are gearbox mount and loose heatshield.

Anyway don't want to hijack your thread! But keen to know what yours turns out to be.

Did you get any feedback from garage?

Hi, back from the garage. They took it on a drive and heard the noise but when on the ramp they couldn’t see anything. Had 2 mechanics take a look from under the engine but couldn’t find anything. Told me to drive it until it gets a bit more worse and then it will help pinpoint it.

Hi, so garage had the car for 3 days… They can’t find anything. The brake disk metal plate is away from the disks, the driveshafts are perfectly fine, i even removed the passenger inner cv shaft and checked to make sure the cv joint was all in tact and it was. So i got someone to drive the car whilst my head was in the footwell (off road obviously) and i could hear the running noise coming from the centre of the car so now im thinking it’s something to do with the propshaft. We’ve checked the metal play around the flexible disk is well away from it so it isn’t that that’s making the scraping / rubbing noise… Any suggestions?

Found the issue guys… It was the cover/plate around the propshaft, from the front and sides looked fine but from the back it was slightly kinked and touching the propshaft!

Good find and thanks for update! I'm sure will help kodiaq drivers in the future!

How do you think the kink was caused?

Mine is booked into skoda on Friday to check my noise. (Mine is coming from rear and is now very loud when hitting thr brakes) which is looking like rear disc and pads but we will see.

Not sure how the kink got there, my car was involved in an accident so i presume it was linked to that but the engine etc wasnt damaged so really not sure… Just bloody glad it’s sorted as it was painful to listen to! Love the car at the moment :)

You'd think the garage that had the car up on the ramps might have spotted that...

They are the ones who spotted it, from underneath you can’t see the back of the plate. So from the front it looked fine and the sides but from the back it was slightly kinked.

Ah - good on them - I thought your post meant it had been spotted by someone else.

Useful to know though for future reference!
