Am i on the right forum as I'm surprised no-one knows anything regarding this?

They might do if they see your post.

I will flag for @Breezy_Pete, he might be able to help.

I vaguely remember someone on here ( @langers2k ??) once saying that Mk2 Octy ( or something of similar vintage) has a plug-in daughter board on the instrument cluster, and that the connection between the two sometimes causes trouble.

Symptoms don't suggest any obvious cause to me, sorry.

Ok thank you, I'll get it plugged in and see what comes up.

The separate daughter board is only for earlier pre-FL clusters afaik...

As that's a FL cluster, it'll probably be the normal LED failure/dry solder joint which messes up the entire LED multiplex system used to power them.

I think you probably need a good local electronics repair shop and to check out the guide in this thread:

As I found out, this problem happens if there has been condensation in the car.

If you have climatronics then make sure it is set to auto so it can control the humidity. If you don't have it, then open the windows on a warm dry day to dry it out.

Ah right thank you, so will the issue disappear by doing that or is the damage already done? Thanks

It will go back to normal when dry.

They extra lit icons on the dash varied, depending on the indicator stalk and other controls.

Removal of cluster and hair dryer maybe?
