'Take over steering' message

Featured Replies

Anyone else getting this message when using adaptive cruise? It's so annoying flashing a red message and bonging noise. I have hold of the steering wheel but obviously not strong enough. It appears to be far worse since I had it serviced in June

Car is 2023 vrs petrol dsg

The message comes from the lane assist which ACC relies on. Usually occurs when drifting off centre of the lane. If yours is worse then maybe it’s in need of calibration.

It's actually a glitch in the capacitive steering-wheel sensitivity; I also get it sometimes even when the car is well-centered inside the lane and the road is straight.
Changing the hand position on the wheel or tightening the grip solves the "problem".

That's not something I have noticed but it does make sense that if the steering wheel doesn't 'see' any inputs the system thinks your not steering the car. Thanks.

Only if you have travel assist though, without it you don't get the capacitive steering wheel.

Yep, exactly this. Nothing wrong (or to do with) Lane position, it just can't sense any pressure on the wheel - really annoying!

Do you have a capacitive steering wheel?

People do all sorts of stuff.

Jam a Water bottle in between the spokes and wheel rim.  Soft drink cans, heavyish Bulldog clamps etc.

Works on some vehicles that have not got a camera as part of the 'take over steering' system.
