Wired connection (USB) doesn’t work with new iPhone

Featured Replies

Hi all.

EDITED TO ADD: I’m still Googling and now wondering whether I need a CarPlay adapter. If so, can anyone recommend one that would work in my 2016 Fabia?

I’ve been using an iPhone to listen to audiobooks/music and use the mapping app for years, but it stopped working/connecting when I recently bought a new iPhone.

Google suggests that many people with many different kinds of iPhone are having the same problem.

I’ve just been on the phone to Apple support, who have tried hard to help. My phone will now connect wirelessly to the car as soon as I get in (via Bluetooth) but I can’t find a way to see maps on the car screen when connected wirelessly. This has been an issue recently as I’ve needed to navigate to a few new places (hospitals, for health reasons).

On the phone again to Apple just now we both noticed that somewhere in the car settings, when it asked for preferred connection method, it offered Mirrorlink (I think it was called) and an Android alternative. Apple CarPlay was not in the list. I now wonder whether it should have been. I told Apple I’d try to work out why AppleCarplay doesn’t seem to be in the list, try to get it and then return to Apple if necessary.

Can anyone shed any light on this please? As mentioned at the start, my various phones worked seamlessly with first a Fabia Estate and more recently a 2016 Fabia to play books and music and show me the map, so they must have been using something. I didn’t give any thought to what it was because it was simply working. Since this issue arose and I looked into things a little I assumed they’d been using Apple CarPlay. Now I wonder whether it was something else. Mirrorlink, perhaps?

Should Apple CarPlay be on a 2016 Fabia? If it’s not there, is there a way for me to get it?

Thanks for any help. This is a hugely confusing mess!
