Reverse up incline

Featured Replies

Hello,

Another question I have in relation to my recently purchased Superb.

I have noticed that when I am trying to parallel park in a parking spot that is at a slight incline in reverse gear, I have to use the accelerator quite aggressively.

I have attached an image showing the type of incline I am describing.

It seems that if I try to go slow and precise, the car will not reverse.

Obviously this is quite concerning as I am worried that I will use too much accelerator and potentially hit the car or object parked behind me.

Is this normal behavior in a DSG equipped vehicle or is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks in advance.

Reversing uphill requiring more accelerator input sounds normal to me in any type of vehicle.

Likewise. Also, manoeuvring an automatic on a hill requires more precise throttle control because you don't have a clutch.

@MisterSkoda  Handy if you say what your Superb is.

Reversing a 1.6 TDI with a DQ200 DSG is a different story from a 3.6 DSG 4x4 if that is what you have.

Yes, that's normal behavior. So what I do is never parallel park up an incline, and ideally never reverse up an incline unless I can either get to 7mph 2k revs in a straight line without hitting anything or, I only need one burst of acceleration before putting it into neutral and letting it roll up as far as it can, this is used only when turning the car around using a drive or side street and not 3 point turn.

If you don't use the accelerator hard enough on a hill, you're probably putting more wear on the clutch pack.

Thank you for the replies.

Yes, I do have a 3.6 4x4 DSG.

It looks like this is something I will have to get used to, as it behaves very differently than any automatic or manual transmission equipped vehicle I have driven before.
