Fuel gauge skoda felicia

Featured Replies

Hello all first off you all have been so helpful In bringing me skoda back to life and it's done me really well....

The only thing left to do which I can't get my head around is the fuel gauge...

So I have replaced pump as was shot... the gauge worked then stopped then worked ... now stoppe.... so if the engine on or off the thing reads empty though it's not ... also empty light on... now I have tried bridging wires together to get the gauge to read full to see if it's the sender and it's not reading so I assume it's somewhere else... how do I get dials out to check gauge ?? And I don't have multi meter but do have the light for chasing live cables of makes sense ?? Please help....

You need a wiring diagram for your particular car, bridging the wires may not give a full read (but I don't know) it depends on how the gauge is wired to work (others will know).

If the gauge works on resistance then a multimeter would be handy but as always all connections and wires need to be secure, clean and protected.

Hopefully my post might bring your thread some momentum.  Good luck.

Unusually for me I didn't miss that, it's a language thing, I think sparticus-84 will know what I mean by the phrase would be handy, literal and non-literal meanings.

Thankyiu for any help given

This seems to be a wiring or an earth connection issue.. can you plug in your old pump to check the guage again?. If not first clean up and refit the nearest earth connection to the fuel pump, I can't remember if it has one under the rear seat, it's been a while since I had my Felicia.

If those two actions don't fix it, then you can replace the fuel guage after removing the instrument cluster: there is a video in the classic guides section. Be sure to disconnect your battery before starting the job though.

Tried that but where is earth connection please ps rear seat ?? It's a pickup thanlyou

I'm not sure if there is one then, sorry: I've never owned or worked on a pickup . If there isn't an obvious wire that separates from the rest at the fuel pump end of the wiring, then it must use an earth connection somewhere behind the instrument cluster. I added a second earth strap from the suspension turret to the battery when my car developed electrical faults, and that cured the issue and is still working as far as I know. Sorry I can't help more, but my Felicia manual is tucked away up in my loft at the moment.

Any place of the car body can be used as a Ground, find one which already has a screw on it.

Few examples, not from Felicia.

For a test just take a clean sure earth connection from the battery negative terminal  using any suitable length of appropriate wire.  For direction live or earth testing I just use a long length of twin wire with four female spade connectors, two at each end, battery end then get crocodile clips to go to battery terminals and other ends gets a wire tail with male spade one end and whatever connector is required at other, a simplified version of some probes,  This eliminates any connectors and switches and stuff from battery to item to just test live or earth supply and that the item fully functions with a clean supply.
