New Battery for Yeti.

Featured Replies

Hi, do I have to register a new battery for my yeti and, if so, how is it done?

Thanks. Chas.

No.

This only applies to vehicles with "Stop/Start" technology.

The car does have stop start on it.

..mine had SS, and the new battery did not need coding...just "plugged it in" and it worked fine...(2015 L&K).....fiited by local indy....

Now I'm confused. Does your reply, which contradicts Stubod, mean that only a dealer can replace a stop start battery in my Yeti?

You don't HAVE to register a new battery, but it is better if you do.

No.

Anybody with the right plug in device can do it:-

VCDS

OBDII

Good battery fitter.

I'll try our local garage to see if they can do it. We are on holiday just now.

Thanks. Chas.

I've heard a few times that if the same type of battery i.e. EFB or AGM, and the same Ah then coding is not so important.

I always code anyway as I have VCDS and why not do a simple thing.

But still just rementioning a common statement.

I had my battery replaced at a local tyre place and they had the required programme on a laptop and knew exactly how to do it. You just need to check that whoever you choose is so equipped.

Are you sure? According to your profile your vehicle was manufactured in 2013 well before the start stop nonsense started.

So did earlier cars have start/stop if they were Greenline models?

..when I took mine into my local indy (Yeti specialist), I expected them to have some fancy equipment to attach to the electrics when they changed the battery. However the girl from reception just came out, disconnected the old battery, took it off, then simply dropped in the neew battery and re-connected it without doing anything else...ie, could have just done it myself if I had known.

Did not have any problems with anything afterwards.

Replying to JR. Yes it has stop start on it.  We turn it off all the time as it's a pain.

I wouldn't be impressed with a professional not coding a new battery. Even if the same battery type and Ah you should change the battery serial number to reset the BMS.

Hopefully what I've heard is true then and the BMS will adapt over time to the new battery. But still I'd expect a professional establishment to do it by the book.

...don't see what the problem is..it worked fine...????

Sure to its optimum though ?

I'm assuming your vehicle was stop/start ?   I'm only saying what should be done, as regards to how really necessary it is then I don't know. But wouldn't you expect a professional place to do things by the book ?
