2018 Android Auto not working.

Featured Replies

Hi,

We've recently bought a 2018 Kodiaq SEL as a 2nd car, we had a new one in 2020 as our main car and Android Auto worked fine in that.

Whatever I do in this 2018 I can't get it working. I've tried 2 different phones, many USB cables and absolutely no joy, plug in, press smart link and the Android auto/apple car play buttons appear but can't be pressed.

Is it a case of the 2018 is too old to support latest Android OS or that the car needs a SW update (no suggestion in the car it does) or symptomatic of something else. I don't recall the 2020 car we had needing a special cable?

Any ideas?

I thought Android Auto needed enabling at a dealer, used to be at a cost of ~£120.   Could it simply be it is not enabled on your other car ?

Our 2018 SE has AA and works fine so don't think it's an age thing.  Have you reset the system by pressing and holding the on off button on the infotainment as that usually sorts ours when it gets a bit stroppy.  Otherwise it could be the USB socket playing up?

The socket is charging OK but I'll try full on factory reset and see.

The point you make about the USB socket playing up... Mine has been causing my headaches for ages and I could never work out why. Sometimes it would work without issue, other times it would connect/disconnect every few minutes, seconds, hours, whatever. It did it so much sometimes my phones security app would lock the connect out sometimes.

I then noticed on a dirt road that it was happening constantly, especially over bumps. I wriggled the USB A end of the cable in the socket and it started to work and stayed connected for ages. then it happened again. I notice that the socket is 'loose' and I'm wondering if there is an issue. I'm trying to find out how to dismantle the centre console and look at the connections behind the socket. Hopefully it just needs pushing together. Any ideas where I can get diagrams, parts lists and how-to instructions for taking the console out?

I should mention that it happens to all phones connecting to the USB socket (Android and iPhones), I've replaced all the cables, reset the system, updated the phones, etc.

That sounds very similar to ours but I've managed to largely solve it by tightening up the socket 'springs', nipping up the cable plug so it connects better and leaving the cable connected.

There are diagrams for getting at the socket that I have somewhere... but I have no idea where at the moment.

Thanks for that suggestion.

Last night I eventually found all the diagrams for the Kodiaq and it happened to include the way to pull the plastic shroud out to get access to the cable and USB assembly. I'm going to try to pull mine this weekend.

Let me know how you get on.
