Featured Replies

Hi New here,
If found lots of helpful things for my New Octavia VRS wagon. but I would like to Swap my 19 inch wheels to 18's.
I'm looking for a guide on what offset range I need to look for, I would like to go to a 8.5inch wide rim.

Has anyone got any advice or a guide?

An yes I have searched...

Simon.

Hi, has anyone fitted 17x7 wheels with ET40 on octavia mk3 pre-facelift. Original is ET45.

I know it is not much of an difference but still, any noticiable effects?

The standard 17" wheel specification on the Octavia MK3 Scout is 225/50R17 7Jx17 ET45 5/112 57.1

If it was me, I would consider using less offset if going to a narrower tyre such as 205/55R17 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1

Notice that the below 205 tyre is 2dB quieter than the 225 tyre and with the narrower tyre being a 55 aspect ratio tyre rather than a 50 aspect ratio tyre the sidewalls will flex more easily and give a more comfortable ride. The below 205 tyre is also cheaper than the 225 tyre...and the narrower tyre will also do more mpg due to less weight and drag.

The below alloy rims are from Skoda's accessory catalogue which are priced around 60% less than Skoda's ordinary parts catalogue...hence these prices tend to be competitive with aftermarket alloy rims.

Thanks for the effort, however the thing is, I am planning to update my summer wheels that came with the car (much older Yeti wheels) and want to keep existing 225/50R17 tires. There is a nice and cheap second hand set of MAK wheels, which otherwise match the octavia scout 3 wheel specs, except for the offset (40 instead of 45).

I guess i wont even notice the offset change, at least when looking at what people do with their RS equivalents and wheel spacers.

Yet i have figured that it might cause more pulling and be little more harsh for the chassis parts. However, might be only marginal difference. Guess ill have to try it out, probably I could even sell the wheels forward with equal price if not happy with em.

Done now and there is more pulling in higher speeds. Not a dramatic difference but noticeable.

Cannot be 100 % sure with this tho since the tires that came with the wheels are different and used.

I've fitted 18x8.5 et46 with 225/40/18 tyres. Ride is good, a little more noise on rough roads coming from the 205/55/16, but I doubt you will notice it in your car. Tyres look slightly stretched so if you can't park/want some protection for wheels go for a 235 tyre maybe.
