Only Hot on Hi

Featured Replies

My Climatronic on my Mk2 Fab only blows hot air when I turn the temp knob to the "Hi" position.

The blower, AC and the footwell, middle and windscreen functions work as they should. The temp gauge on the dash stays on a constant 90 degrees after the engine warms up and the coolant level is correct in the expansion bottle.

Has anyone got any ideas please as to why the blown air is either very hot (when on Hi) or ambient. Thank you very much in advance.

My Climatronic mixes the air to give the temperature set so if I have it set to 22 (normal for me) that is the temperature of the air coming out. I often set it to low but have never tried it on Hi.

From the manual:

You can set the interior temperature between +18°C and +29 °C. The interior
temperature is regulated automatically within this range. If you select a temperature
of less than +18 °C, “LO” is shown on the display. If you select a temperature
above +29 °C, “HI” is shown on the display. In both limit positions the Climatronic
operates at maximum cooling or heating capacity, respectively.
The temperature is
not controlled in this case.

Just for clarity: The air being blown into the cabin is at ambient outside air temp (at all blower speeds) at all temperature settings unless I turn the temperature control knob to the "Hi" setting. On the "Hi" setting the air blown into the cabin goes very quickly to max heat.

Sorry for the confusion.

Is it cold on a cold day? Have you measured the temperature at one of the vents?

Have a look in your car's Owner's Manual and see where the Interior temperature sensor is (11) and make sure it's not covered or has fluff or other stuff the other side of the plastic grille, if required clean it out as appropriate.

With VW cars now my first thought is is it one of the computers (programs) having a brain-fart so the old "switch it off 'n' on agen"  in this case perhaps a reset of the climatic controls (programs?) by IIRC holding certain buttons on it for a certain time and the internal flaps go through a little sequence and reset themselves and no doubt other marvellous(?) computer stuff, they're marvellous(?) things ain't they, computers and computer programs.  I can't remember which buttons and for how long but if I'm right the info will be in this forum, just do a forum search, or Google search which will probably get you to posts this forum.

Otherwise an appropriate scan tool might be required (fully updated for your model and year of car to perhaps see wot's-up.  Some Briskoda members offer help for beer tokens, some others might offer professional services with different reward structures.  Have a look here. -

Thanks for your question Jocko. It is cold on cold days, until I turn the knob to "Hi". I have not measured with a thermometer. Just touch and feel.

Turn on the ignition, press and hold both the AC and Front Vent buttons until both lights start to flash then you'll hear the flaps calibrating and the lights will stop flashing after 10-20 seconds.

So buttons 18 and which other please (not that I'll remember for long)?

That picture is different to my unit. I would just try them in turn to see what initiates the reset sequence.

Sod's Law - would the front vent button be one of the buttons marked 12 to 17 (14. 15?)?

IF the unit I put up is the one in @Doily Fabia then the following video shows reset is turn on ignition, push and hold both buttons for a couple of seconds, middle button and far right button.   If that doesn't work the second video for Mk3 Fabia shows holding three buttons , adding in the "AUTO" button. -

I can confirm the the first (embedded) video with holding three buttons worked in my 2013 Fabia (II). Started blinking and ran a calibration procedure. Let’s see if my error code about stuck flap that I’ve had for 1,5 years disappears now. Will ride once and test with OBDeleven.
