Diesel judder

Featured Replies

I’ve a 2 litre diesel Superb Estate. 4 year old, 55k with full service history. Never missed a beat.

Started occasional juddering (short power loss). No real pattern to it. No dash warning lights.

I was away from home last week on hols and only mechanic I could get out couldn’t see any errors on his tablet plugged into the car. I’d topped the oil up a week or so before and he reckoned I hadn’t clicked the filler cap or dip stick airtight and that was sucking air in and confusing the engine management. Sounded feasible to me and the car has run fine up until this evening when the judder is back (still no warning lights).

Only  thing I’ve done differently is to top up with premium diesel and add some Wynns diesel ‘cleaner’ to the fuel.

Any ideas?

Change intake and diesel filters first. If it's still there try to find someone with vcds to give it a proper scan. If you're in london we can have a look tomorrow

Thanks for the info and the offer. I’m in Birmingham!

Had the problems started before you put in the diesel cleaner & refueled?

Yes but after the oil top up and not screwing the cap in properly

Hi we had this problem with our 2016 diesel Superb.  There are some old posts on this site I found under stuttering. Our garage recommended getting an OBD diagnostic tool. Very cheap. It came up with the crankshaft detector problem. We had it replaced and the juddering and stuttering has not happened again since. It got quite bad in the end so worth getting the OBD.
