Diesel Vrs clutch

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a 2.0 Tdi Vrs MY2015 with a 6-speed manual. Engine code CUPA.

For some time i have been thinking about getting a custom remap from a well known tuner here in Finland. They promise 220-230bhp and 450Nm. Sounds reasonable to me because the stock turbo doesnt give more what i have searched the internet.

What i would like to know is that how much power and especially torque can the stock clutch handle if its in good condition and you drive it "the right way". The car has done now 204k km.

Will the clutch slip anyway because of the tune or will it handle it?

What about the 02Q-transmission? How robust is it?

If anybody has some personal experience/info i would be most grateful. Im not planning going over stage 1 because its my daily driver.

Oh and also is the petrol 2.0 tsi stock clutch the same as in diesel?

Thank you!

Ok, so you mean u have 228hp for a year and everything is working fine still. No clutch slipping? Do you still have dpf installed?

Are you happy with the tune? Any negative effects?

My old mk3 vrs TDi was mapped to 230bhp with Revo. The clutch never skipped a beat. Rolling road print out in the link below.

Would highly recommend it, changes the TDi RS entirely. Still returned good mpg if that’s a concern… the mid range pull is great.

Someone else may know better but I’d think the TDi clutch is entirely different to the TSi to handle the lower down  torque the diesel produces. I could be wrong there though 🤷‍♂️

I have a 2016 tdi Vrs manual and got it mapped about 3 years ago. Went for an Apr map which gives about 220ish bhp and just over 400Nm. Still on the stock clutch with no issues and car is on 97000 miles. Would recommend getting a map, obviously, it uses a bit more fuel, but you still get over 50mpg on the motorway and It just makes the car more fun.

The clutch plates for the VRS are the same as a Golf GTI. 220bhp is no hassles. They start getting flakey above 250/260bhp and in that case, you need to upgrade the clutch and possibly the dual mass flywheel too.

as above the clutch is good for 260bhp then your looking to upgrade to a dual mass.
