During my hardwire dash cam install, I removed the trim which holds the passenger airbag switch and unplugged it. Now (unsurprisingly) I have an airbag error on the dash.

 

I’ve cycled the ignition a few times in hopes that would reset it, I also tried enabling and disabling the airbag with the key, still no joy.

 

Is this something I can reset at home? I’m hoping something like ODBeleven free plan can do it, but it’s difficult finding out what the free plan can actually do.

OBDeleven or VCDS, provided the airbag module isn't SFD locked.

I did watch something on YT that it is possible to unlock with the Pro version, so probably best buying that.

With VCDS it shows modules that are SFD locked when you do a scan, I don't use OBDeleven so can't comment on whether that indicates SFD locked modules in a scan.

@rik1254 Did you able to reset the error code? if yes can you share how did you do it? I also made same mistake of unplugging the airbag switch and now receiving same airbag error every time i turn the car on.

I was able to reset the module using a BT obd scanner I’ve had for years (originally used for Bimmercode on my old F31) with the Car Scanner app.

What PetrolDave said still holds true, if the module is locked, you’ll need to pay to get the right tool/ software.

I’ve just done the same on my new Octavia 🫣

Reckon I can still clear it using something as the car is SFD2 as I understand it …?

Do you have OBD11? You can't fix it with that, but you can find out your airbag module's software version...

I had an issue with my airbag light that wouldn't go out, Skoda insisted a new module is needed, turns out an update to the module software fixed it

You need access to ODIS to be able to apply the update though, or, do as I did, take the car to someone who has

I actually have vcds via hexv2 from my last car but wasn’t sure it was going to work due to sfd2 etc …

But happy to say I was able to read and delete the codes!!

For a new car, there was a ton of error codes showing lol.

I too have an airbag error after temporarlly dosconnecting and reattaching rhe passenger airbag on/off switch. I have an Ancel VD700 code reader... but it doesnt seem to communicate to display the error code or reset the airbag error allarm.

I'm guessing, as its a 2024 Octavia, that the alarm is locked due to SFD2 ?

If thats the case, is the only way to reset it to ask the local dealer down here in Cornwall and pay up?

I was able to use vcds so it’s not an sfd2 issue I don’t think. As in you don’t need to go through that security to read and clear the code.

But my eBay special odb2 reader didn’t communicate with the car.

I had to have the software on my airbag module flashed with the latest update to turn mine off, but mine is a 2021 model and was out of warranty hence me not wanting to take it to Skoda who'd have insisted on replacing the module.

However, they should do yours under warranty.

What age/model is your car though? Your profile says an Octavia III Scout

2015 which is prior to SFD being introduced. The car u need to reser is a 2014 Octavia mk IV so im not sure if VCDS would work or not.

Now have 2026 VRs

For my 2024 I needed the latest HEXV2 26.3 version of VCDS to switch it off
