Adaptive Cruise Control - can it be switched on ?

Featured Replies

Hi, all

Noticed the other day that when I pulled out from behind a lorry in the first lane, after a car had overtaken me in the second lane, that the instrument screen showed a small image of two cars with an arrow drawn between them for a short time, indicating the car thought I was too close to the car in front.  As far as I'm aware, our car doesn't have ACC, just the standard on-off version.  But does that image indicate that the radar for it is fitted in the car, and if so, is activation of the adaptive version a software hack via anODBC dongle, or is this wishful thinking and more hardware is needed for the system to use the brakes as required?

Hello Eddie, welcome to the forum. That symbol is, as you thought, an indication that you may be too close to the vehicle in front - this indication is from the front assist radar system, the same sensor that performs emergency avoidance braking if the system thinks a collision is imminent.

Retrofitting ACC when you have standard CC will require (at least) a replacement control stalk - and possibly other hardware changes.
