Android auto wireless getting disconnected when crossing borders

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just received my new MK4 and I noticed that every time I cross border - car disconnects android auto and after about one minute it reconnects.

It's kind of annoying as it stops navigation and music when I play from phone. And I'm crossing border several times a day.

This is clearly bug of software - is there a way to post it to Skoda so they fix it?

Android auto is using your mobile phone subscription and when crossing the border phone automatically moved to another operator network (roaming). That does not happen seamlessly hence the one minute gap.

The only place where you can influense that is at www.3gpp.org

that's not correct - because operator change on my mobile phone happens usually 5-10 km from border. This disconnect happens immediately when I cross border. It's definitely based on GPS information from car.

By default it happens when car shows 'country speed limits' notification - but I disabled it as it was annoying (BTW it disconnects also when this is on).

There is a phone eSim in the car's system that it uses for software updates and to provide location information about your car. So it's the car's phone network connection and location that disconnects. Look up eSim in your digital manual.

This note from the on line manual implies Wifi may be interrupted at borders. If you are using wireless Carplay/Android Auto that may be related. Not saying its a the right behavior but it might explain the behaviour.

@Cedwing you hit it.

I tested with cable before and it disconnected, but now I did another test - disabled WiFi on phone and connected via cable - no disconnect this time.

Thanks for tip. Seems there is nothing to do with it - as this is legal obligation - Skoda will not change this behavior.

Just to have some comparison, I have crossed borders several times (within EU) and I was using wireless android auto, but for me it never disconnected. Maybe you have some bug or could be related to your phone.

That's strange - because I tested with different phones - even Android and iPhone has same behavior - so I think this is car related.

I'll do some test on different country borders and let you know here.

It is definitely the car (have a Enyaq since a month) this as I had a Karoq before and that had never this issue. I am living in Luxemburg so crossing borders on a regular basis and its very annoying. So if there is a way to change this behavior I am glad to hear it

I've got the same problem with my MK4 superb. I drove recently from the UK to the Netherlands and it happened all the time there and back. I sent a message today to Skoda so waiting for a reply.

I'm thinking it could be something to do with the latest version of Android. I use a Google pixel phone and it has the latest software on it. Maybe Skoda needs to do an update so it's fully compatible. Anyway I will try and update if I get anything info back from Skoda.

Yes, I have the same problem, every time I cross the border, CarPlay disconnects.

I've been in contact with Skoda via email. They now know about the problem, and I also gave them the link to this forum. So if you have anything to add hopefully they will see it here.
