Low rev jolting

Featured Replies

Hi

I’ve got a 2017 Skoda OCTAVIA diesel VRS, That is intermittently hesitating when driven from being restarted from fully warm. I’ve had it obd’d by a local garage, and the fault code ‘suggested’ that it was a crank sensor fault. This was replaced but the problem remained.

Is this a common fault on this engine? I had a 20L diesel ambiante about 10 years ago that had the same problem, and despite changing various parts the fault was never repaired and I had to get rid of the car.

As the car has only done 60k I’d rather not have to get rid of it.

Any ideas appreciated!

Stupid question - how do you drive the car?  VAG cars need plenty of right foot action, otherwise they start exhibiting performance issues like yours.

Yes, crank pos.sensors do and can fail.  I hope that a genuine OEM part was fitted.

Check the oil level and I suggest a spirited drive - away from the bright lights of Soton into the New Forest  (keeping to the speed limit of course) and take the car for a long/fast run.  If its a manual, keep the car in a lower gear, keeps the revs up.  You need a good fast run - consider a 80/100 mile round trip.

Accelerate HARD - do several of those....work the turbo actuator.  If you are feeling flush, a tank of Super Diesel would help out - get the cetane into the car and help keep the engine at best performance.

Thanks for the reply. I must admit I probably don’t drive it as hard as I should but, my work journey is 25 miles each way ( to the new forest😁) where I sometimes leave it in a low gear on the faster roads.

Yesterday I had the crank sensor changed again,  this time at a Skoda main dealer and so far 🤞🏽it’s been ok. I think your suggestion of  using OEM parts might have cured it🙂

There's a similar issue with the older PD engines that sometimes showed in CR engines.  The problem arose when the starter was worn and didn't turn the engine over fast enough for all the parameters to line up.  The result was no fuel supply.  It was made apparent by continuous cranking when the fluids were warm.  Like you I tried many things to resolve it but finally the only thing that fixed it was a remap purely by accident.

I'm not saying your issue is the same (from what you describe it's not) but a re-flash of a stock map image might help.
