Issues with SOS & adding a user

Featured Replies

Hey all,

picked up my 2021 Octavia IV on Saturday. Since then I noticed issues with the SOS popping, going offline and coming back online.

skoda booked it in for software updates and SOS module update which they did today at a cost of £249. Driving home and the updates did nothing as the SOS is still popping and going offline.

another thing I’ve found is whenever I try to sign into my ŠKODA account to add my user it says “sorry, this function is not currently

available”

trying to get ahold of the warranty company to sort the SOS issue, but wasn’t sure if anyone knew anything about the user errors.

attached is a photo of what they have updated it all to (14/11/24)

Welcome to the forums and your new [to you] Octavia Mk4.

The versions of components in your photo are the same as mine, apart from the Nav. Db date (I'm on 24.10, but do have a subscription which includes the OTA updates).

To add a user the car needs to be online. On the main Infotainment screen, you should see a globe symbol in the bottom row next to the clock (the Info segment), it could be either grey (offline) or white (online) - you need it to be white. The in-car comms module should connect automatically if you have a mobile signal.

Did you buy it from a Main Dealer as a Škoda Plus Approved Used car? If so, then all updates should have been applied before sale - it's one of the benefits for buying such a vehicle -

Hi Steve thanks for the reply.

I bought it from an independent garage, so no updated would have been applied.

Should the car connect to the internet itself or do i have to sign into wifi for this to work?  I dont recall ever seeing a white globe, so not sure if there is something i need to do for it to come online

Comms module may be faulty, as well as antenna. It is very common issue and Skoda will be able to fix that. They always update software as a first measure, but it does not help those early cars. But you should claim all costs from garage which sold you the car, since they clearly sold you a faulty one.

Thanks for the info - they have paid (well said they will as asked me to invoice them) the £250 for the updates done yesterday.  The car was sold with warranty which didnt cover software updates so they offered this off their own back.

Ive found a garage about 2 hours away which offer to repair it for £100 - i dont think they take warranty work due to the process which i can understand, so debating whether to fork out the £100 and have it done properly once.

Yes, the car should connect by itself if the comms module is working properly; you don’t need the use WiFi.

The white globe should appear like this in my car…

Found the globe you are on about, showing as white.

Trying to do it, it says "Sorry, unable to load your settings".  I have factory reset the infotainment system, same error.

I recall that happening from time to time; usually sorts itself out in a day or.

If it persists check that you can log in ok to the app with the same Škoda ID, add your car (vin needed) and see data such as mileage and fuel economy.

At some point you’ll want to ‘promote’ yourself to Primary User for which you may need a dealer to verify your ownership (privacy laws and stuff like that).

I can log into the Skoda app fine, just doesnt let me past the activate as primary user as to do so you need to log into the car itself, which is the part i cant do 😞

Logging in as primary user needs verification by a dealer. Shouldn’t take long, you’ll need your Škoda ID, proof of ownership/purchase, and proof of your ID (driving license should do).

That’s all because as primary user you can use the app to locate the vehicle and alert based on speed or location regardless of who is driving it. Hence the privacy considerations come in to play.

Not the first time I've read this, however, when I bought my used Octavia (from a non dealer) I was able to add myself as primary user the very first time I tried, as when I picked it up it was still registered to the previous owner. I can't remember exactly how I did it, just went through the settings and voila

Interesting, and slightly concerning that the seller didn't clear their data from the car before parting with it.

I too had the problem of the infotainment constantly restarting, then on Wednesday afternoon the SOS call anomaly light came on and the infotainment no longer works, it is constantly "loading settings"

Yesterday I called the Skoda toll-free number, they gave me the telephone number of the Care connect center in the Czech Republic, the girl who answered me connected to my profile and magically everything was unlocked.

it made me do a hard reset, then I logged in again, when I restarted everything seems to be fine, for now it doesn't even restart the infotainment which used to be very frequent!!

We'll see on the first rather long trip if everything is okay

The girl at Care Connect told me that she still saw some anomalies and to take it to a Skoda center to have it checked and the software updated.
