P0401 EGR fault

Featured Replies

Octy Mk11 1.9 Diesel - Engine warning light came on, OBD ii says P0401 EGR flow insufficient detected. Car has been going super well as usual and no issues at all. I've cancelled code for now and initial re-start didn't trigger it again - awaiting result on the 15 minute drive home later.

Probably on another issue, the glow-plug symbol light keeps coming and going entirely at random and every single (boring) time I used the OBD ii there was no issue showing up. That started about -45 months ago, and I've been waiting for a more positive result but nowt! I have absolutely no idea what the light is saying. Don't really want to fork out a 2nd mortgage to get Richmond group  (local Skoda dealers) to put it through a better test.

Anyone know of a decent garage near Southampton West that could help?

OR, any of you ladies and gents had a similar issue easily fixed?

Had this on a Seat altea but same engine I think. 1.9tdiBXE Used to go into limp mode with same error code randomly. Clear code and it was fine for a while then back. Cleaned EGR valve etc which was full of gunge and checked vaccum operation Cured it for a while then it came back. Got a second haand vaccum control unit and checked all vaccum pipes but no difference. Finally found a small black vaccum valve on EGR cooler at rear of engine that was sticking.

EGR Cooler Vacuum Valve Unit Actuator - 1.9TDI 2.0TDI for Audi VW SEAT Skoda OE NO: 038131501AQ 038131501D 038131501G XM21-9D475-AA 6M21-9D475-BA

Not the easiest to get to but managed without having to remove cooler.
