Felicia with extra set of fog lights

Featured Replies

I bought my Felicia with factory set of fog lights, i changed after a while the yellowish bulb with an after market 6100K (if i remember correct) and kept this combination for many years.

One night i decide that i need an extra set of lights (because in the city the factory could be annoying for the other drivers) to light the sides of the road (more \ / shape than the factory) plus i could light them on early in the morning when there is not enough natural light or in a cloudy day.

Someone suggested me to have them as DRL but i don't find that idea as good.

I bought and installed this pair, 15W and 6500 K.

Was not something ''great'' but was something and add some light on the road.

I kept them for some years and then i decise to add a pair of fog lights more powerful so i had to do a modification in the fog light bumper grille.

Stay tuned...

After few years i bought another pair, 12W with 6000K White light which had a bit stronger beam.

I didn't want something very strong, they had a low beam in 3000K yellow colour but i was not interested so much.

The fitting was not a big issue, my electrician did the whole job with the On-Off switch inside the cabin (actually is on the ashtray's panel) and i cut the bumper grille but the whole ''picture'' was not good looking, i had to do something more beautiful to look sort of ''factory made''.

For sure i couldn't do something like this

but i thought i had to try to make something better than this

which was something temporary and in a hurry.

I like LEDs but never fit them on fog lights because it negates their purpose as FOG lights,

In my fog lights i have halogen bulbs.

My electrician suggested me to do not install led bulbs on them because they will blur the other drivers.

Those auxiliary lights that i have now have a low beam yellow 3000K but i don't use it.

The grilles are removed, take a look how those projectors are mounted on the bumper, can adjusted a bit up-down or left-right.

After years of use some rust signs are visible on the bracket but this is not an issue.

Here is their ''performance'' in a parking lot, i will try in the future to find a dark area outside to take another photo.

The smartphone is not properly aligned and the angle is not perfect but you can take an idea.

Are these supposed to be fog lights used in fog or spot lights to give more light in general use?  Do you now have two sets of fog lights on your car?  How much fog do you get in your city that needs one set let alone two sets of fog lights?  Is it fog that you get or more like smog in the city?

There certainly appears to be too much 'scatter', for those additional lights to be effective as fog lights. In fog, they will just blind both the driver - and oncoming traffic.

I don't know about fog lights, front fog lights I've never found of much use, almost always the wrong type of fog for them the very few occassions I've used them, perhaps modern front fog lights are better, I've no idea.  As a generalisation it may depend on if the LED bulbs fitted are fit for purpose, designed for that use.  I used to see loads and loads of moans about LEDs by old farts that own "classics" about LEDs but they had often just fitted the wrong type or cheap crap Chinese LED bulbs, going to a reliable knowledge seller would have prevented many of their mistakes and often existing wiring and electrical issues were at fault rather than the LED bulbs.  People often compare apples with oranges as far as LED and other items go and then wonder why there are differences.

My understanding is that fog lights need to be mounted as low as possible so as to use the narrow, relatively clear 'slot' that often exists just above the surface - So far, so good - however it is critical that the fog beams are very tightly controlled to prevent upwards light scatter, which will reflect off the fog.

I call them ''fog lights'' because they are mountaid in low position as the factory fog lights although they have a 3100 K yellowish beam if needed.

I also use them for example while i am inside the parking lot, no need to open the main beam or when in am in narrow country roads to have more light in the sides.

Their range isn't wide, their role is auxiliary and i don't expect to ''save me'' in case of a foggy day (which is extremely rare here in Greece).

With your liking for American cars will it be kerb feelers next.

2 random examples.

Are you sure that does not dazzle drivers coming from the opposite direction, have you tried parking your car up and driving towards it in another car, looks to me more off-road brightness in those photos (unless camera/photo lighting).  Over here now we might suggest a visit to SpecSavers.

Those random photos are from internet, simulate country road low-light situations.

My extra pair of ''fog'' lights are not so strong and haven't such a high beam.

Without seeing their beam I'd think those lights are more near-field driving or flood lights, certainly not fog lights.  It's not my car and I'm not you where you live but it's beyond me why you would really need them in a city particularly wit busy traffic but if you want them that's fine.  Modern cars are already far too over blessed with front lighting for normal road use for my liking.

Fair enough, If you want them that's your choice, if you need them that might be another matter.

There was times that i wish i have them, the parking/marker light aren't enough.

Of course i don't light them every night, only in some circumstances.

I manage to take a photo in a parking lot, it's almost dark and this helped to see the beam of those Auxiliary lights better althought the angle of the camera is not 100% proper.

Some adjustments needed on the right one and as about the ''yellowish'' on the left it can be fixed but i don't want to remove the lens because i have added a special silicone for watertightness.
