Thule Roof Bars - any fitting tips

Featured Replies

I just bought a set of Thule Roof Bars (parts 750, 869 & 1360). Does anyone have any fitting tips to get a very secure fit.

I put them on earlier and they seem fairly secure but I am about to get the wife to help me again and try with 2 pairs of hands.

I have a saloon not an estate in case anyone uses the part numbers above.

Cheers.

Well, to answer my own post, the wife and I have refitted the roof bars and with 2 pairs of hands tightening the 'gutterless feet' the fit is brilliant. 100 times better than my effort earlier tonight.

Keep the tips coming as I will be fitting roofbars to me estate when it arrives and I want to get it right. So many to choose from.

The roof bars actually look really good on the car, not sure how the wind noise will be though. I bought a Thule roof box and a Mont-blanc Bike Carrier as well.

We are all off to the Lake District next week camping so all the new items will get a good road test.

What kind of speed can I do with a roof box and bike on the roof, I guess I need to keep to under 80mph.

You would have to keep it under 70 as that's the fastest you could possibly go on a public road. ;)

Any higher speed would of course be on a private road.

Enjoy the holiday :)

Could you post a pic of your car with the roof bars? Are they much different to the Skoda OEM roof bars? I'm currently in negotations with a dealer to get an Octavia and my next move is to get him to throw in a set of roof bars for free. I'm a kayaker so need them.

But the thule bars could be better?

I have Thule aero bars on mine. No whistling under 100mph in the dry but they whistle like a barsteward in the wet over 70mph, especially during the cold winter months.

thanks for the photo. How quickly can you put them on and take them off?

Also, anyone knwo of where I can get pics of what the OEM Skoda roof bars look like?

On or off in under 10 mins by myself. You do get quicker with practice. To be honest though they have been on now for the last 5/6 months and I forget they are even there unless on the odd occasion you hear them whistle. It's a company car so I don't really look after it if you know what I mean. I paid
