Several questions about 2017 Superb functions, upgrades, updates, etc

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First, I want to thank you all for the information available in the forum. However, I have several questions regarding my 2017 Superb. I bought it like 4-5 months ago, I usually drive it only on weekends, so each day I'm discovering new features. So far, it has been an amazing car. Since I have several questions, I prefer to group all of them in a single post.

My first question is regarding the software update. I've connected the system to my home's wifi successfully, but when I try to search for software updates, I get this error.

Am I supposed to update it another way?

My second question is regarding the screen upgrade, as I've seen in this forum that some units could be upgraded. Could I upgrade my system? Could I install wireless Android Auto / Apple CarPlay?

Also, my car has an USB-A port, could I replace it for an USB-C port?

Another thing I noticed navigating the settings, is that my car apparently has the feature to lower the mirrors when in reverse, but mine don't do that. Is this a software issue, or it's just a feature not available for my car?

Last but not least, I'd want recommendations on what else I could upgrade on this car. For example, I've noticed that my rear blinkers are regular bulbs when everything else is LED. What should I have in mind if I wanted to replace them?

I would really appreciate your knowledge. Unfortunately, this car is not sold in Chile anymore, being the 2017 the last year it was sold here, so if I wanted a more modern version, I'd have to import it, and that is not allowed here (only under certain conditions I don't meet).

Thanks!

My 2016 Superb had a sd card slot in the glove box. This was how the satnav database was updated (ie via an sd card that you had previously downloaded and unpacked the software on to on a pc)

Not sure but I doubt you could simply download some software to get apple carplay etc

You could probably physically replace a USB A with a USB C connector but it would only be for charging. The additional functuality including data transfer wouldn't work. You would be better to get a USB A to C adapter

If fitted, lowering the mirror in reverse only works when the rotary mirror control knob is set to the L position - or the R position if you drive on the right in Chile?

An LED indicator bulb uses much less current than an old fashioned one. If you replace with LED then probably the car will complain that the bulb has blown because it is not taking enough current. You could add a resistor in parallel to increase the current drain. I think you can get LED replacement bulbs that include such a resistor.

U have an MIB2 unit, hence:-

1. U can only update the maps via the sd-card.

U need to download the latest maps from the Skoda Update portal, using ur VIN number, to a computer, then extract it to the sd-card.

2. Yes u can upgrade MIB2 to MIB2.5 with the larger 9.2" screen. I recently made a how-to guide and posted in this forum. Do a search.

No, u won't get wireless Android Auto or wireless CarPlay. Only MIB3 units can do it natively.

Ur solution is to get a wireless dongle, like AAWireless, which plugs into ur existing USB port.

3. MIB2 and MIB2.5 can only handle USB-A ports, they can't do USB-C ports.  Only MIB3 units can handle USB-C.  U can convert a USB-A to USB-C, but it will b "fake" and won't b a data port anymore.

I converted my 12v socket in the rear to a USB-C charging port.

....and before u ask, it too difficult to upgrade to the MIB3.

With the rear bulbs - U can replace them with LED bulbs with no issues provided u get the CANBUS error free version.

Plenty of choices available - Phillips, Auxito, ilumo.....
