Intermittent keyfob range problem

Featured Replies

I have an intermittent problem with my 2021 Skoda Karoq with the range of the keyfob. It changes from being able to lock / unlock the vehicle from long range ( approx 30 - 40 metres ) to less than 1 metre. I originally connected it to whether you were logged in as a primary user or a guest but it's not consistent. I have changed the keyfob batteries multiple times and both key fobs suffer the same problem.

Related to the receiver in the car?

Hopefully remains under warranty?

If it isn't a fob issue, which it looks like it isn't, I am inclined to agree with pinkpanther

According to the workshop manual, there is one underneath the console between the front seats, another underneath the area between the spare wheel well and the rear seats, and a third in the rear bumper.

After months of intermittent problems i finally found out what the problem is which may be of use to any other members with a similar problem.

The intermittent failure to detect my keyfob at any distance turned out to be a cheap chinese  plug in Bluetooth/FM Transmitter / Battery Monitor that i had plugged into the cigarette socket which i only used to monitor the battery voltage. It was transmitting a spurious signal with harmonics across the FM band and up into the 400mhz frequency that was acting as a signal blocker to the remote receiver for the keyfob . I had ocassionally unpluged the offending device so as not to drain the car battery and i had not spotted that this is when the keyfob range reduced massively . I tested the horrible device and it was sending signals all across the keyfob frequencies.

A good find how did you measure the frequencies it was transmitting. Perhaps it could be used as another layer of protection to prevent villains stealing your car.

I used a Radio Scanner and it was recieving a signal on multiple frequencies all over the band's including the 400mhz frequencies. When I switched it off they disappeared. It seems to interfere with infotainment unit as well.
