Cold weather issues

Featured Replies

My ex demonstrator post update First Edition claims it has a heated windscreen. However, recent frosty weather makes me doubt this. I have sat for several minutes with the switch on but the first I see of the windscreen clearing is from hot air beginning to come through the vents.

Previous Fords I have driven you can see a mesh of wires through the windscreen but there's no sign of that. How quickly should I see it clearing if it's working?

The other thing is that when setting off in freezing conditions the cockpit screen lights up with a yellow triangle and the warning "Front Assist not working " or words to that effect.  When going into the Assist screen,  Front Assist is marked as "Off". However within half a mile the triangle goes out and everything seems to be working. I get the impression one of the sensors is covered in frost but how do I resolve that?

There have been posts on complaints about the Heated screens not being as good on a Skoda / VW as they used to be.  No idea if yours is working.

(They never have worked as well as those on a Ford, even a Fiesta.)

Do not expect Front Assist if it can not see because it is frosted / iced up, there is snow on it, or maybe even H20.

The heated windscreen is activated via the Clima function on the infotainment system, not a switch as far as I know. It is with mine and it works very well on mine, usually within 90s it starts to work effectively and within another 30-45s it's cleared 90% of the frost/ice on it and the car is driveable,

That's normal in very cold/frosty conditions, it's because the camera is obstructed and just needs and bit of warmth and wiping with the wipers.  Like you've found it clears after driven a short distance.

Sorry I meant the function - maybe it's a virtual switch!

The function icon turns green but there's no sign of any heat.

I would certainly have expected the reaction you state.

Are there really no wires to be seen?

For some reason I thought the front assist cameras were closer to the road. Never thought about it being the windscreen camera. I only start driving once I can see out of the windscreen but maybe the camera lens takes longer to clear- possibly because the hot air from the vents can't get at it.

There aren't any noticable wires in my screen. There's no heat or warm air as such felt on the heated windscreen, you only get heated if you select the defog windows option afaik.

My mk3 had the wires (very faint), the mk4 has an inbuilt film. Part of the package that includes the heated steering wheel. You can actually see the different colour of the screen compared to those that don't have it. The virtual button still has the same icon as previous.
