Skoda warranty conundrum (& quote check)

My 2017 Superb III with 62k miles on is just coming to the end of the 2 year 'All In' Skoda Service Plan, available for cars up to 6 years old and < 100k miles.

 

It's in for major service and MOT at a main dealer today - it's passed the MOT and there were no red flags on the service, but quite a few amber including:

 

  1. NSR brake flex hose rubber splitting - £150
  2. Both front shock absorbers weeping - £1460
  3. OSR coil spring corroded - £340

 

I've been told these are not covered by the warranty because they're not yet failed. If they were red (failed) rather than amber (warning), they would approach Skoda to cover them - although there's been no explicit "yes, they would be covered if failed".

 

My problem is that in a month my car will be out of warranty with no further warranty available from Skoda - so when they do fail I won't be able to claim. Further, it would be wrong (and fraudulent?) to buy a 3rd party warranty when I already know these are failing.

 

Is the advice on warranty only covering failed but not failing parts correct? What would you do in this situation?

 

 

To be honest I’d be surprised if anyone of that was considered possible for warranty claim due to “wear and tear” exclusion.

Yes, I was surprised that went to amber warning rather than straight from ok to fail. I'll get it booked in asap.

Before doing anything I'd check all of the items they have listed as amber yourself. All are relatively easy to access and view. Garages are very good at over/under-egging the condition of items depending on whether they want/don't want the work. Warranty work doesn't pay that well I'm told. 

Otherwise research for a trusted VAG specialist that can access and update service history etc. Save on £per hour charge and you get a sensible approach if it goes above and beyond the workshop manual (I know of cleaning the Haldex gauze but admittedly that's probably not relevant to FWD and I don't know how many other things that fall into the same category).

IIRC it was about £200-250 labour to have both front shocks removed and refitted by my local garage. A pair of front Bilstein B4 Damptronics can be had for about £550.

 

Rear coils can be done in a matter of minutes on a driveway, so any garage should be able to knock those out for minimal cost.

Wait...B4 or B14 Damptronics? I thought it was B6 for normal and B14 for lowered/uprated...don't say there's another option!
