Clock Spin replace / Steering heating

Featured Replies

Hi

I think I broke something.

Let me start by saying that a year ago, I replaced the steering wheel to activate the Travel Assist feature, which worked perfectly and has been great. Since the steering wheel has a heating option, I decided to connect it now.

I bought a new clock spring and a connector for the cables.
I replaced the clock spring and reconnected the cables to the new connector following the diagram I had. After connecting everything, a bunch of errors appeared:

  • Airbag fault
  • Front Assist fault
  • Buttons not working
  • No turn signals
  • No wipers
  • No steering wheel backlighting

Basically, it looks like the steering wheel isn't connected at all.

Because of this, I decided to reverse the process and reinstall the old clock spring and the old connector.

After restoring everything to its previous state, the same problem remains: there’s no connection with the steering wheel.

Do you have any idea ?

Thanks any help

Did you get this resolved? Im looking to do the same thing just waiting on my steering wheel

Hi,

Yes, problem is solved and I'm very happy.

It was unfortunately my fault. I was transferring the pins one by one from the old connector to the new one. There were two red wires, and I have no idea how I managed it, but I swapped them. One of those red wires was power !!!.

After several days of brainstorming, I suspected those two red wires. I switched them back, the power returned, and the errors disappeared on their own. The only error I had to clear manually with VCDS was the airbag error.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask, and maybe I can help 😊

Apart from changing the steering wheel, you also need to replace the clockspin  and change the connector from a 16-pin to a 14-pin one.

Hi M4ki, thanks a lot for your reply. Sorry I didn't respond I missed the notification email. I would really appreciate your help on this as just received the steering wheel.

I just have a couple of questions around part numbers if you still have this info available.  Mainly which clockspring and connector do you need?

I like you mainly bought it to activate travel assist, but I have cold hands so really would like to get the heated steering wheel done at the same time!

Do you need to add anything in the fuse box? If you could give me a really quick general run down on how you did it that would be amazing.

Hope you had a good Christmas if you celebrate it!

Cheers

Hi, I know I asked a bit much previously, but if you could give me the correct number of the combination switch/stalks or advise how you found it I would really appreciate it. Feel like Im banging my head against a brick wall trying to find the part number

Sorry for not replying for such a long time, but I've actually had a lot of work. I definitely want to help you and will prepare a short guide for you.

In the next few days, I will check the part number of my ClockSpin. In the meantime, try to find this connector (14-pin). Unfortunately, I don't have the part number for the connector as I was lucky to get it together with the ClockSpin.

Good morning.

Thanks for the info. So i have a new clock spin now too. Just got to get the connector.

Did you have to install a new fuse as well?

Yes, you need to connect one cable to the fuse box and the other to the grounding. Unfortunately, connecting to the fuse box is not easy for me, so I had to use a temporary solution. I bought a fuse tap and connected it to a different fuse. This is just a temporary fix—once the weather gets warmer, I will do it properly. Right now, I don't have the right conditions to do it.
