RH Dipped headlamp warning but lamp is OK

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

2017 Superb, 2.0 diesel estate

Got a RH Dipped headlamp warning on the dash and the RH Dipped lamp isn't working.  However the lamp is OK (swapped it out anyway) and when I check the fuses the slots marked as headlamp in the manual (35/36) in the interior fuse board are both unpopulated.  I metered every fuse I could find (including the engine bay fuses) and they are all OK...

Any ideas where the fuses might be hiding or anywhere else to check?

Metered the plug and got 6v on the blue/green wire not sure it that is relevant.  On the other models that is the headlamp power but I couldn't find a 2017 wiring diagram.

Thanks

Rich

You say the lamb (bulb) is OK, did you test it with power and also the replacement?

I ask because the Maxidot warnings come from the body/comfort control module, they monitor the volt drop on each lighting output, if there is none then its either an open circuit bulb or an open circuit to the bulb or in its earth return path.

I believe (and you could confirm this) that the fuse feeds both dipped headlights so if one is working then it will not be a fuse fault or a circuit fault between the use and the BCM.

Thanks

I did con test the lamp (brand new Bosch) but I didn't light it.  I'll swap the LHS and RHS see if that helps.

What is the 'maxidot'?  And where is the BCM?  (Sorry if this is a numpty question!)

I preceeded the BCM acronym with the full description.

Maxidot is the LCD display in the instrument binnacle that I assumed you read the bulb warning message from.

Ah, you were asking where is the BCM!

Its location can vary across vehicles and their ages, often above the drivers shins.

Thanks, will check see if the BCM plugs are secure and dry.

There r a number of fuses that r headlight related:-

23 - light right

31 - light left

35 - AFS

36 - headlight right

37 - headlight left

43 - xenon headlights

The headlight power ballast, one each, at the back of the headlight, is also a likely culprit.

On RHD Superb the BCM is located on the left of the passenger footwell, below the glovebox.

It's not easy to get to at all, especially if u want to disconnect the connectors.

It is highly unlikely that the connection at the BCM is the culprit here.

In the pic below, u can see the connectors for B and C.  The connector for A is further in.

Nice one thanks.  It's got normal halogens so no ballasts.  I'll take a look at the BCM but it doesn't look fun...!

Fuses 36 and 37 are unpopulated but I'll check and pull the others then meter the fuse socket for power.

Is there a pin out for the headlamp?

The headlight pins r on the B-connector.

Thanks will take a peek, all I can think is there is a wiring snag somewhere.  I assume there isn't much else to go wrong.

Thanks to everyone who chipped in but the fault didn't lie with the car just the numpty trying to diagnose it.  I was looking at the wrong lamp as the last one I changed was the main beam...lamp changed problem fixed.  Never assume always check!

Problem solved (and a glow plug changed)

Sorry for wasting time!

Same problem, same solution! You are not alone….
