Looking for a blower/heater motor possibly?

Featured Replies

Hey guys - I'm new here, just joined. :)

Wondered if anyone might be able to help/advise on heater in my Skoda Favorit GLXi Estate, she's an L reg so 1993. I bought the car from a dealer a couple of months ago and all was okay, a few niggles but nothing major. Whenever I'd put the heater on, the motor was super loud and almost deafenening, so I knew that it might be on its way out. Now it has completely stopped working, and a nightmare to demist windows and have some warmth.... :/

Would anyone happen to know where I can find a replacement motor for the heater? I am at a total loss as I cannot find this part anywhere. Checked all fuses but it's definitely the motor that's gone.  😞

Thank you so much,

Pandora :)

Hi, welcome.

If the heater motor was very noisy then very possibly it's broke but always best to check, if you can get at the motor wiring you could test the blower motor directly connected to the battery terminals with a made-up lead as this would confirm and eliminate the fuse, fuse-holder, most of the wiring, connections and switch.

For cutting down on windscreen and windows misting you could use dehumidifying bags, scrape or clear all of the windscreen (and window(s)) on the outside, clear the inside of the windows with a clean damp synthetic chamois, put the windows down to balance inside and out.  Don't have wet or damp items in the car (clothes, towels, boots etc.), air grill(es) open to get outside air in.  Not fun in the Highlands I know but needs must.

Let us know how you get on.

I have a ''bitter'' experience with water/moisture in my car.

Bags this style

are a bit dangerous because when they get fill with moisture sometimes have a leak all the liquid it pours down.

I prefer this type

of course with the car not moving.

Newspapers below the carpets help a lot.

I had my blower motor seize up when I didn't use it over one summer, anyhow a little lubricant on motor bearings whilst spinning it freed it up.

The motor bushes can become stuck and stop contacting the communicator, and stop it working that way aswell.

Just be careful when removing the motor cover, because the retaining clips fly off to the ends of the earth, never to be seen again.

You don't have a/c ?

I purchased a genuine Skoda fan motor very cheep some time ago off Ebay and replaced mine just for the sake of it the car is 26 years old, so the one I took out was still working ok I did loose a couple of them clips so I just put some black duck tape on the join looks ok.

Good old cars these Skodas I am so glad they are not seen as a popular car more for us that like them. 26 years and still a great car.

Yes,

You can remove them whilst cupping your hand over them to catch them.

But a good tip is to put a bit of tape over them then unclip them, then hopefully the clip is still stuck to the bit of tape.
