Glossy Steering Wheel, Easy to Fix or Something to Worry about?

Featured Replies

Hello all, I'm new here :)

I was just wondering about this Mk1 Fabia I've found which perfect is everyway except one. It's a 1.4 16V so should have plenty of power for a first car. It's even got heated seats! However, I've noticed that the steering wheel is super glossy, I'll attach some pictures to illustrate what I mean Does anyone know what causes it, and is it easy to fix? Is it anything to worry about, it particulally irks me but if it's just cosmetic hopefully I could get it fixed. It's a Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V Elegance 5dr so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it (different steering wheel material, perhaps?) my mate has a bog standard 1.2L 3 cylinder one and his is matt.

Thanks all!

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Going from the Dealer mat on the floor, I'd guess that its some type of treatment that they've ill-advisedly put on the steering wheel to 'dress it up' - it will probably wear off pretty quickly.

Alright, thanks. So hopefully it'll just naturally come off?

You could ask the Dealer what they used on it and get a suitable product to wipe it off - but I'd guess that it will probably wear off naturally pretty quickly.

Attacking this issue from the other side, when I had my Octavia I fitted a leather steering wheel glove (sourced from Halfords for about £10) to deal with a similar issue.
