Retro fit Android auto ?

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone, I'm going to look at an SE-L IV (71 plate) over the weekend and I just wanted to check something.

My understanding is that the cars don't come with Android auto but is there a way of retro fitting this - I'd be chuffed if it's possible.

Many thanks

My 71 plate Octavie had AA in the system when it came with V1804 of the software.  It has been updated to 1941 and still has it.  Check the infotainment software version (scroll o the second page on the infotainment screen to find 'system'.  If it is an approved Skoda used car insist that the dealer updates the software to the latest version.

IIRC the very early builds of the Octy4 on early versions of the infotainment system required a wired connection for Android Auto. Only later was wireless support added.

As @RobL50 mentions, get the seller to update the s/ware prior to purchase (any Approved Used Škoda from a main dealer should be updated anyway - or at least that’s what the blurb on the website says).

Thanks Rob/Steve, that's encouraging and yes, it is a dealer so hopefully it should be done. So it should have 1941 which is the latest ?  The other thing I'm trying to establish is whether they all came with adaptive cruise control as it's not always easy to spot in the photos and specs can be vague...any pointers ??  ( I'm guessing as well that you're happy with your cars) Thanks

As Steve suggests, really double and double check again that the software is updated. A friend of mine bought a 70/71 plate last summer from a main dealer, and it was plagued with software issues that only now are being resolved by replacing the head unit and probably another control unit or two. Hopefully not all dealers are the same too!

Thanks Aaron

When I got my car last year the software had not been updated.  I had to show them the Skoda statement for used cars and a picture showing my software version before they agreed to update it.  The latest version is 1985.  The dealer may claim that it is an over the air upgrade but I would push him to supply the car fully updated.

I have only used wired android auto.

Mine doe not have Adaptive Cruise control.  It has a function that can be set to standard cruise control or speed limiter.  In the details it was described as a speed limiter.

I am very happy with the car it is a PHEV and most of our miles are short so it is electric.

Mine is on v1941, not pushed for an update yet ‘cos it is working fine; no software issues at all.

Adaptive cruise control on mine, an SE L First Edition; can’t remember if back in 2020 when the mk4 was launched if the SE L had ACC or if it was the First Editions that got it. The SE and SE FE didn’t have ACC as standard.

It should be obvious if you try it on a test drive.

And yes, very happy with my car.

Latest version should be 1985

Is Android Auto built into the infotainment system? I haven't seen it.

Smartlink is there, but as far as I know Android Auto is a phone app, based within an Android smartphones archtecture, and it's currently on 13.3.644654 updated early December '24.

Smartlink is the the interface software on the car, that provides the linkage between the two. If you have Smartlink, you can link your phone to your car.

Carlink provides support for Android or Apple.  On the infotainment sctrrn you have to select Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

I know that. But AA is NOT part of the infotainment system directly.

Carlink has to include the interface for AA and to accept any changes to AA.  I would consider that this interface is part of AA on the car as it is proprietary to Google..

Je le sais. Mais AA ne fait PAS directement partie du système d'infodivertissement.

hi, i have a octavia 2019, software MEN2_EU_SKJPx_P7381L. hardware like Swing, i want to activate android auto, can you help me?

21 plate SE-L running SW 1941. Yes it should have adaptive cruise control and Smartlink will support wireless Android Auto (which is fantastic btw) provided you have a reasonably up to date phone (not sure what Android version is required, my old Huawei P20 didn't work wirelessly but my Samsung S24 does)
