1.5 EVO vs 1.5 EVO2

Featured Replies

Hi,

Was a long-time Fabia MK3 user but now warming up to a Karoq. Today I test-drove a MY25 Karoq and a MY24 Seat Ateca, both 1.5 TSI DSG.

What I noticed is that Karoq seemed to be slightly smoother and more responsive when accelerating slowly (less turbo lag?) and on the whole I got the impression that the engine/transmission was slightly better "calibrated" for the lack of better wording, than in Ateca.

My question is, could this be due to Ateca having EVO while Karoq having the latest EVO2 machine? Is it possible that it would be so apparent? If so, then I'm a bit disappointed because I'm currently looking into purchasing a used mid-2022 facelifted Karoq but presumably EVO2 was only introduced in Karoq in 2023 or even 2024?

What are your experiences comparing EVO with the new EVO2 machines?

I recently replaced a 2021 Evo 1.5 dsg Karoq with a 2024 1.5 dsg evo2 . The new one does seem slightly smoother and quieter. It's only done 900 miles so far but on a long run it seemed a little  better on fuel as well

How can you tell it's an evo2? Does it say somewhere on the homologation paper?

It's the engine codes but I don't know exactly what they are. The evo2 was introduced on some VW models in 2022 and the Karoq in 2023 I think ? I believe the evo2 doesn't have a plastic engine cover but don't quote me on that...

Doing some research, I think you may be right. Also, the evo2 engine code should start with DXDB, from what I understand. It seems it was only added to Karoq lineup as late as in 2024, though.

Our Karoq has the DXDB engine and was registered in April 2023.

Interestingly enough, I checked about the engine code of my test drive Ateca today and it's actually also a DXD one! So I guess it's also evo2? Which then negates my initial hypothesis that evo2 is superior to evo when both my test Ateca and test Karoq apparently had evo2 machines! Could it be that the Karoq one is somehow better suited for Karoq? Hm.
