ECU Stage 1 Upgrade questions

Featured Replies

Good day all,

Just an inquiry for an ECU Stage 1 upgrade for an RS169 Mk3 manual . I am wondering how the Eco mode and Comfort mode etc change when doing the the remap? I guess the reason I am asking ( and can't find the answer) is because I am a bit concerned about the traction loss due to power output and trying to find out if Eco mode (or other modes) reign in the power enough to prevent it? For example in low traction environments/ situations.

Thanks in advance;

Ben

Most of the time the remap will just enhance every mode. Not sure if any companies have managed to remap just one of the modes whilst leaving the others standard.
as long as the map is a nice smooth one without the chasing numbers’ maps

it can also depend on the gearbox map too if you are dsg. You’ll just learn to drive with a little less right foot

It depends on the map.

Mine seems pretty mild in ECO and Drive, but quite frisky in Sport mode.

Throttle response has a lot to do with how it feels too.

Talk to your tuner and tell them what you want and they'll tweak the map to suit your needs.

If they can't, you're possibly buying an "off-the-shelf" map from a retailer masquerading as a tuner.

Yep. Understood. Mine is a manual so I guess that could be interesting. Thanks for your response.

Yep. Was thinking of doing an off the shelf one but you may have changed my mind now. Thanks.

For my map, I wanted similar power to the 230ps vRS, but not the full ~250ps my remapped Gen3B EA888 is capable of.

He could have given me a map with "kick in the pants" power delivery, but that's not what I wanted.

I asked to preserve the smooth & linear delivery, just bump it up a bit, and that's what I got.

I hope you find a tuner who can meet your needs. Good luck! 👍

How do you find getting the power down to the road? Assuming you are Front Wheel Drive?

Not a problem, it's only 230ps up from 190ps, after all.

The throttle response on Sport mode is sensitive, but for Drive & Econ mode, you wouldn't know the car is remapped, it's quite discrete.

I'm not even sure the map applies outside sport mode. I could do with a rolling-road test to check it all out, but I can't be ar$ed just now.

Hmmm. Interesting. And no there mods to speak of?

Beyond the remap, no.

To get a custom remap done properly would be quite an iterative process, making changes and testing the changes both on a rolling road and by driving.

Mine was simply me telling him what I wanted, and as I'm good at making myself understood without ambiguity, and him supplying it.

A test drive confirmed I'd got what I wanted, as far as I could tell, and that was that.

It's only after many more miles driving that I've fully got to know the car and how it drives ion the different modes.

DSG driving can be a simple "Bung it in D mode and forget", or quite a complicated business, changing modes to suit traffic and road type & condition, not to mention inclination.
