Rear washer - poor pressure

Featured Replies

Morning

The rear washer spray on my car seems to have low pressure. I have cleared the jets and also ran the spray without the nozzles on. Normally it would spray out about 1.5m above the car but right now its a much lower pressure. Spray height is less than 0.5m.

My question is whether there is a single motor in the spray system at the bottle or is there another motor at the back of the car? The pressure at the front of the car seems fine.

Or am I looking at removing the interior cover of the boot lid to see if there is a leak in there? Nothing seems to be leaking out.

This seems to happen during freezing weather and once the jets unfreeze i normally have to clear the jets of "crud" but this is something new.

This is an interesting one ... I exclude a second pump for the rear, have never seen a vehicle with such configuration. The ones with "double" systems had their own reservoir and pump, but this is going back at least 20 years.

Leaks excluded, what about the type of liquid you use? Some could get more "jelly" once temps fall, and this would make the pump work harder and spray less.

Thanks for this input.

I use a Prestone screen wash for winter at the moment. Concentrate with water from me. When its cold i add some 99% alcohol fluid but I didn't have any in this time. I think the time has come to pull the rear panel off the inside of the boot and see whats going on in there.
