Kangarooing 1.5 tsi a thing of the past?

Featured Replies

After long relationships with diesel engined VW, Skoda and more recently Volvo. Considering buying 24 plate Octavia 1.5 tsi. Has the kangaroos issues been fixed on the manual version.

So the problem with some of the 1.5 tsi powered vehicles especially the manual gearbox model was a hesitation or misfire when moving off from standstill or a junction, commonly known as kangarooing. Has the VAG group sorted this problem out through software updates or other.

Are there any issues with current mk4 models?.

Regards

Yes, there's no kangorooing. I own MY24 Octavia preFL, have not had the issue. Obviously, the car behaves differently in the first 30 secs when first started & the revs are high, but this is not unusual.

Hi. Is your car DSG or manual gearbox.

Manual one. Are you looking for a FL or pre FL model? The engines are different, since the FL has different cat/GPF configuration and shorter warmup.

Mine does it when first moving off forward from stone cold.  Only for the first 30 yards, then it's fine.  It can be avoid by having slightly higher revs (you don't have to go bonkers) than you would normally use.

Thanks 386ka, will have to check PFL or FL. So they have stuck a gasoline filter on the latest models, not Adblue or equivalent I hope. Want to get away from this motoring hence going away from diesel.

Both versions have GPF, but they don't use AdBlue. The operating principle is different to DPF, and should be less prone to failures AFAIK.

I have a manual 1.5 TSI and the only time I experience "kangarooing" issues is if I attempt to move off too soon after a cold start.

It pays to leave your engine running idle for at least 30 seconds or so when first starting in the morning or after being stood for a while I find, when doing this I never experience the "kangarooing" you mention when moving off

Thanks guys for your information much appreciated.

Still experience it on mine but if I let it idle for 1-2 minutes before driving it's all good.

@RMIK2000 it is not a 2024 1.5 TSI ACT that you have though, according to your signature.

Try using less revs. When it was happening to me I found that if I stuck to low revs, enough to pull away basically so I could change to to 2nd and it solved the issue.

I was thinking of coming back to Skoda. I've recently scrapped my Octavia 1 and exchanged my mk3 for a Volvo XC40 2 years ago.
