1.4TSI (CHPA) 2013 DM KEITH QUOTE

Featured Replies

Hi guys, would appreciate some help on this:

Long story short, I bought my Octavia MK3 1.4tsi in August 2024 (with 65000 miles) from a used car dealer under DM Keith. This came with a 1 year warranty (so my car is still under warranty). I got a check engine light so took it to DM Keith to look at and they've brought up a bunch of issues with a hefty cost. I am not sure as of yet what will be covered by warranty and what won't but just curious as to if this is foreshadowing an expensive ownership for me. The car is on roughly 70,000 miles. Any help or advice on the issues listed would be much appreciated as some of the prices seem completely unreasonable. Thank you for reading.

Surely you want to get your brakes sorted, however the price is ridicilious just for diagnosis. I would just get the rear brakes replaced (disks & pads, calipers if really needed), perhaps in more reasonable carage. Brakes are a wear item so wud not expect compesation from warranty.

Oil leak. I would try to see how severe the leak is and then decide if I would just live with it. Or if it fixable with new seal or something. The price seems high.

Undertay, again would check how bad and probably just live with it or fix it with some screws or whatever is needed.

Oxygen sensor is most likely something you need to get changed anyway. Perhaps other garage cud do it cheaper?

All in all, take it to somewhere else. Ask what the warranty covers and if they have a place where the work should be done under warranty.

@dmniel

  1. Brakes - There's a reason why they get called "main stealers". £156 is more like the price of a new calliper and installation assuming the pads and disc to be good.
  2. Oil separator - Don't know
  3. Undertray - Don't know.
  4. EML - Is that even coming on?

Have they scanned for fault codes to see why the engine check light is coming on?

Is this light also called an EML?

yeah the engine light is EML (Engine Management Light) so I believe anyway. The cause for the light is the O2 Sensor

Thanks, I am thinking the exact same thing at this point. Use the warranty for what I can then take the other jobs elsewhere

I have car 1.4tsi 17plate dsg, with warranty on it,

Brakea not covered wear and tear part

Oil leaks, any leaks covered

Undertray cover, scrap yard, ebay etc

Eml, car has to be given back to you with light cleared... Dealers responsibility

Also with warranty, dealer has to replicate the fault, or won't attempt any fixes... Eg my start stop...

I agree with this. The 02 eml and oil leak should be resolved under warranty or consumer rights. Not consistent with implied sales terms. Durability and fitness for purpose.

Just got the car back from dealer. Unfortunately they only resolved the O2 EML. No mention of the oil leak, although I don't believe it's a major leak. I wouldn't have noticed anything had I not got the EML for the O2 sensor but now I am aware of the leak. Will likely just monitor my oil level for now until I learn more about it.

Tbh I wud be more worried about the brakes. Minor oil leak in a 10+ year old car is quite common and often does not require urgent attention depending on where it does leak (to a belt or so) expect if it fails MOT bcs of it. Of course it is always better to not have a leak.

It is good plan to monitor that oil level does not drop and learn what is leaking and how much.

The brakes, see how they look. If not familiar, google how disks and pads should look / how thick pads should be and how the disk should look like. If the caliper is seized the brakes wear fast and may get very hot during casual driving (the caliper pushes that pad to the disk all the time, basically braking all the time).

Thanks for the advice. Halfords offer a free brake diagnosis which I am doing tomorrow. As for the oil leak my oil level has never dropped in my 6 months of ownership but I'm just trying to find how I can get the part replaced for cheap mainly. It doesn't seem like a bad leak but I'm no mechanic. Will continue to research it

Yes, true. My comments were more around warranty dealer issues. Brakes need attending to. Given a piston is seized, you may as well strip and replace pads or pads and discs assuming the piston can be freed!!
