Car wobble/judder between 30mph and 50mph. Cant get to the bottom of it!!

Featured Replies

Hi have had this problem for a while and can't solve/diagnose it

Skoda 1.6tdi 12 plate that judders and wobbles when driving between 30 and 50mph.

Its not felt through the steering wheel  like an unbalanced wheel but you feel it through the seat.

When sitting at a steady speed anywhere between 30 and 60 there is no juddering but when you are  accelerating within 30-60 its there and when you stop accelerating it goes away.

Feels like someone is shaking the seat from side to side.

Checked bushes ball joints etc and all fine apart from some drop links that I have to replace. Fitted new bearing yesterday as it was getting pretty noisy but again no change.

As far as I can tell drive shafts are good apart from very slight play if you grab the drivers one and try to rotate it back and forward It moves by 1mm but  no clicking or rumbling from cv joints.

Its also not really noticeable between 60mph and 90mph.

Also no rattle or sounds from clutch/flywheel area

Did think of tyre that was mishapen/wheel damaged  but it would be there all the time and not just when accelerating.

Any help most welcome.

Having just been through this myself I will say... possible fuel injector issue causing a misfire under load.

Thanks for reply, Doesn't sound or feel like a misfire. No fault codes or warning lights on and car seems fine below 30 and above 60mph. Car has excellent power and acceleration. No hesitation at all and seems to run smooth . It happens even at slight gentle accelaration say between 40 and 50mph on a level road, The minute you stop accelerating say at 50mph and cruise at that speed it disappears. Accelerate again and it comes back till you hit about 60-70mph and its fine above that

I did think of dmf as it goes when the clutch is depressed as well but no sounds/rattle from gearbox area and no rattles or judders when taking off from stationary.

Its a 1.6tdi and have read there bad on injectors so will look into it further but as no codes wouldnt know where to start.
