IV on a long run

Featured Replies

Just trying to work out how this works . Say 500 mike trip in Europe . Presumably battery will run out leaving you with an underpowered 100 horsepower petrol engine in a large car full of people and cr@p - I mean very important luggage?

what sort of range can you expect in hybrid mode?

thanks

Petrol engine has 150 BHP. Even when the battery goes flat it works as a normal hybrid and regenerates some battery and then helps the petrol engine. I think I did a 300+km drive on a motorway before the battery was at 0%.

At legal cruising speeds anywhere except Germany, you should be travelling on the petrol engine anyway. You don't need the booster motor except when accelerating.

Thanks - I’d wrongly assumed 200bhp with 100 bhp on battery meant 100 bhp if running in petrol! Thanks for clearing this up for me!

so effectively it’s the mild hybrid with an extra battery….

The electric power is always present. When in hybrid mode the output is around 5kW (at a steady pace and more with acceleration) when the petrol engine is running. So with a full battery you should in theory do 400km on a full charge. And even when the battery is at 0% the electric output is 5kW but then the petrol engine consumption jumps to 9L occasionally as it charges the battery.
