Quick Q about wheels!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Newbie here!

Just bought an 2021 Vrs with 19" rims and would like to replace them with a set of 18s to aid in a little more comfort.

Scanning the current Skoda brochure i like the look of a set of Perseus however the part number has different letters at the end so not sure which to use?

I have either 5E3 071 498AL or 5E3 071 498H?

is anyone able to shed any light on the differences?

Cheers!

I'm surprised at the need to change for comfort.

I'm on my 2nd MK4 Octavia, the first (SEL) had 17" wheels and my current (VRS) has 19", so a bigger jump than what you are suggesting. I wouldn't say that this one is less comfortable then the previous car..

to be honest, I haven’t really driven it far as we only picked it up on the weekend. We had a Golf 7.5 gtd on 18s and felt it was a little less firmer on the ride from memory.

I guess it could be tyres as it is running Cross climate at the moment rather than Goodyear eagle Assy 5s we normally have.

Maybe something to do with colour or finish?

yes i thought that initially but they have separate pictures and part numbers for the different colours etc.

The codes usually have another 3 characters for the colour at end.

The letter at 10th character is different versions with different offset for different width tyres eg 8j, 9j etc.  Some of the more powerful cars (and electric cars) have different sizes front and rear

Some wheels have two codes, one for the originals which can be ordered with new car, and one for spare parts for second set for winter tyres etc, the spares (which are identical but lot cheaper)

This is the wheels brochure, with codes

Thanks John,

Yes that is the brochure i was using which ifound on another thread.

And yes, the last three digits are HA7

I guess i need to find out the proper offset to know if i need AL or H?

498 AL is wheels without centre caps, available separately

498 H is wheels with chrome/black centre caps

There's some very fine print on the bottom right of that page that shows this.

Both wheel codes are ET48 offset.

Perfect, thanks!
