VRs fuel

Featured Replies

what do you use for fuel, obv diesel. but do you use shell like they advise or does it not matter?

Prefer Shell but with Tesco doing their 5p offer, I'm using their fuel at the moment :D

Everybody will have their personal favourite which they will fervently defend against all comers. Mine is Shell Diesel Extra, and I avoid supermarket fuel unless it's somebody else's vehicle.

I also avoid supermarket fuel...........I try and use BP, evey now and then if the tank is almost empty I'll treat the vRS to some off the

You know it's pretty much all the same don't you? Most of it all comes from the same tanks but there are different additives put in post tanker, there are plenty of threads about it.

The car doesn't smoke so much if I use BP. I think it does run better and it's only 1p a ltr more...........Unless I buy the Good stuff.

i use asda fuel cuz it dont seem to smoke that much

I don't pay for my fuel, so it's Asda fat and smelly stuff for me:rofl:

I have tried BP Ultimate, and tbh noticed no difference.

Is it the case that Supermarkets buy from the cheapest supplier? So that one week it could be Shell, the next week Esso etc...

Have a look here;

To be honest, when running standard my car hardly smokes at all and it's even better with a BioDiesel mix. When running the remap it can smoke like a biatch, it makes no difference where I buy the mineral diesel from.

You will find that sometimes you get a good tank, sometimes bad. I have run diesels for 5 years and done about 300,000 miles in that time and it's always been the same.

Ill go now I have lit the blue paper...

I personally go with Shell, as 1) It's the same price if not cheap than the supermarkets 2) My fab prefers it to supermarket stuff.

BP Ultra is ok, run smoother and a little less smoke but I get less MPG with it.......dunno if that makes sense

SHELL 100% since ownership May 2005

Have tried allsorts of mineral diesels and have noticed no difference in smoke, smoothness, economy or performance in any of the diesels I've owned, although the significant weight loss as a result of emptying my wallet at the BP station for a tank full of Ultimate must have helped performance! I used to use Tesco Global Diesel (back when you could get it at the pumps ) and the car did run smoother :D

Current fuel of preference is Tesco with my 5p a litre off coupons :D

Chris

I've used BP Ultimate exclusively since the start of the year. I won't make any great claims about it, but my car is smooth running, no less or more econmical, and fairly quick.

I don't mind the extra cost because my car seems to like it, but for those trying it out for the first time, you need at least 3 consecutive tanks to notice any difference. It becomes obvious that the car is smoother and quieter when you fill up with anything else. It also seems less smokey.

I'll stick with Ultimate, I don't mind the extra cost and at worst it won't do any harm, plus all those detergents and performance additives may be doing the car some good.

I try to stick in Shell Diesel Extra (or VPower when I was in NL), or sometimes I grab a tank or so of BP Ultimate.

Beyond that it's Shell from a Sainsbury's forecourt (Shell-branded one) which is the usual Derv, or Esso.

Economy is slightly better on the Extra/Ultimate type stuff compared to the equivalent 'standard' from the same brand. That said whether it's worth considering depends a lot on the price differences etc.

Car runs fine on anything really though, and the smoke varies more with my driving style then anything else :P

Chip fat & white spirit for me!

only joking - morrisons special brew for me!

i usually use Sainsburys , but have been using Shell recently , not noticed any difference in smoke, performance or economy between the two
