Another driver door not locking

Featured Replies

Hi,

Browsed a few threads on the topic but didn't find exact match on MK3.

(Sorry if I missed it.)

So the other day my 2018 Octavia (50000km-ish in good shape), just started to click on central lock while driving. Then noticed that driver door didn't lock/unlock via remote.

The other doors lock/unlock with remote.

Can lock with key.

Lock button inside car fails to lock driver door (and also the other doors I think - can check if important).

Internal lights activate when I open unlocked driver door.

Can control mirror on driver side (and windows up/down), and nothing else faulty with electronics that I can find. Have tried my 2nd key, same thing.

No visual issues on cabling.

What's likely wrong and is it hard to fix myself?

Or better of ust call for repairs? (Any rough cost to fix material wise?)

Thanks for your time!

I have had similar issues with one of the doors. I manually closed the lock with a pencil few times (open it by the inner door handle) and same time sprayed some lubricant there. Been fine since.

Ok, thanks.

Can you explain a bit closer what the action was on the handle?

Not sure if you have seen my post on this subject which may or may not be helpfull. I have a 2019 Octavia, had a problem with front passenger door doing various strange things. There is a known problem with the doorlock, two main dealers virtually confirmed this. Cost me £400 supply and fit for a new lock.

Similar to this:

However, in mk3 octavia behind the rubber cover there is turnable thing instead of pushing, check owners manual. Then, instead of closing the door, close the locking mechanism in the gap below ie. by pushing it in with a pencil (where the hinge in the frame would go when you close the door). Now lubricate the mechanism with something like CRC/WD40/Vaseline spray. Then open the lock from the inside door handle. Close and open few times to spread the lubricant. Hopefully it is now fixed.

Ok thanks.

Locking works with key but you think lubricating the mechanism still could fix the problem?

I dont know, but I guess it is worth a shot. Takes few minutes. If the actuator has failed then it wont help but also lubricating might help the actuator work.

Since you can lock and unlock with key it is very fast to try lubricate it. Just lock it while the door is open, spray lubricant, unlock and lock-unlock few times with the key.

Ok, didn't do any difference unfortunately. Have btw double checked, clicking the lock button inside car locks all doors but driver's door.

Any other suggestions?

What's likely wrong?
