Has anyone got or have experience with GAP insurance.Where is the best and safest to get it from. Been offered it from the dealer but seems quite a lot.

Are you buying a new or secondhand car and what sort of finance are you using?

Buying a new car and paying cash adjustment after partx

I didnt bother with it on mine I just made sure my fully comp insurance covered the price of the car to its full value (although I know it is sometimes necessary to negotiate what they off in the event of a write off). it also seemed expensive (300 quid) where as my previous citroen was only 50 quid for the same cover.

If you can afford it try not to add it on to your finance deal but pay upfront instead as £300 over 4-5 years is a hell of a lot

Matt

Richard (Fabia 12v) is very glad he had it as his Fabia was smashe dup in the GAP period.

I have it on the Z as new cars do tend to loose a hefty chunk of their value in the first 3 years. Its also the first RWD car I've had so I thought it was a wise choice given my average driving ability

If I wrote it off in 18 months time I probably couldnt afford to relace it with a nearly new vehicle from a dealer - so I thought it was worth the extra.

My dealer offered it to me and I went for that. Never thought of shopping around for it.

Thanks for the info where did you get it from if I may ask

GAP insurance is definitely a good purchase if you have taken out a loan for the car purchase - however prices vary enormously as does the cover.

The cost with VAG's own cover via the Skoda dealership was almost double what I was quoted by a well known national Insurance company when getting a quote on 'the web'. As with all things shop around.

All the best.

Thanks for the information, if you can let me know a web site i can get a quote.Yes he dealers prices are rather high. So i am interested in knowing where I can get it cheaper.

If you already have the car, you will have to be quick.

I think with a new car you get about a month to set-up the GAP insurance with the price you paid for the car.

A colleague at work bought his GAP insurance off the web as it was at least half what he had been offered by VW.

Best

Mate of mine has just had a 15k pay out on the gap insurance due to soemone t-boning him and forcing him to park the car on the roof. I think it cost me about £500 that was for 3 years on a £33k car

Worth getting I reckon. I have it on my 130iM.

However here's a tip: The dealer quoted me

Was offered it by the dealer for

Was the dealers a Skoda dealer?

Yep; a very long standing main dealer!

Im paying £8 a month through my finance company.

My dealer asked, but i had already signed the agreement with Lombard. When worked out, it was comparable to what Skoda were going to charge me.....
