How To Start an Octavia MK2 via the starter solenoid

Featured Replies

My my Octavia mk2 - 1.6ltr MPI will not start due to a “clutch not depressed problem”. I need to start it some how, to get it to the garage. On a previous occasion an AA man managed to start it using a probe/wire connected directly to the battery. I assumed he used it to energise the starter motor solenoid. However, he managed to do it without removing the solenoid terminal connector, which seems impossible to remove. Any ideas on how I could do the same thing please?

If the clutch switch is the issue, can't you simply unplug (or bridge, depending on whether it's NO or NC) that switch?

If you can see the wire that feeds the solanoid from the ignition then you could strip it back slightly and connect another wire to it and touch it to the battery. The solanoid connector cover on mine is just a push fit.

The solenoid winding connector (the thin wire not the large cable) removes easily if you know the knack of VAG connectors, find a similar accessible one and practice on that.

Or make contact to the terminal pin using a probe through the water/dust proofing rubber ring.
