New Fabia MK4 post purchase instalatiions

Featured Replies

Hello,
Just bought a new Fabia 2024 MK4 and I would like to know if several things are possible and how to do them
1. I don't like the start-stop system, and I would like to do something so that I don't have to push the button to disable it each time I start driving, is that possible?
2. I would like to buy a new dash cam, is there a recommended one?
3. I would like the camera to have both front and rear, In the front I will connect it to the USB C port, but in the rear there is no port, How do I transfer the wire from front to back so that it's hidden, I asked some place that install them and they said they pass it through the roof, which is reasonable but i don't want them to disassemble the roof on a new car, is there another way?

Thanks in advance

An inexpensive adapter cable is offered by AliExpress to allow a driver to choose whether the START-STOP system is ON or OFF when a Fabia Mk 4's motor is started. GOOGLE-search on aliexpress skoda fabia mk 4 2020-2024 cable

When I remember, I turn off START-STOP on my car, but if I forget this is easy enough to do via the dedicated button on the centre console.

I also turn off the loathsome "Lane Assist" at engine start-up, but this is less simple as - unlike my previous Hyundai i20 - there is no dedicated button. Lane Assist selection is 'tweakable' using OBDeleven but that would be more expensive.

Thank you, i will look up the cable, do you know how to install it? I guess you need to take apart the cobsole right?

This link includes a short video showing the installation process

(There are 10 reviews - but not all of them are positive!!)

This video relates to a VW Golf, but the installation procedure is much the same.

It will be noticed that the START-STOP system was originally disabled by using 'code hacking', but (if it works!) the adapter cable ploy should br less controversial.

Having looked more closely at my Fabia Mk 4 SE L DSG (build-date 16 January 2024) I notice that the videos I referred to above would not match where gaining access to the START-STOP switch is concerned.

Unlike on the videos, the shiny plastic trim that surrounds the gear-shift lever's flexible cover is one-piece and I'm guessing that's also the case when a Fabia Mk 4 has manual transmission.

In my car's Owner's Manual is a section titled "Manually releasing an automatic gearbox". The initial step advised is to insert a flat-bladed screwdriver (or similar tool) in the narrow gap that I have green-arrowed and prise up the gear-shift lever cover. Hopefully - once the cover has been raised out of the way - there should be sufficient room to reach the underside of the START-STOP switch to allow the adapter cable to be attached without having to displace the one-piece trim.

Thank you, i will upload a photo when i get the car

This image is of the centre console of a 2025 Fabia Mk 4 with manual transmission. It will be seen that a one-piece plastic trim surrounds the gear-shift lever's cover as on my 2024 DSG car's console.

I dont understand the problem with the stop/start you have to put you foot on the clutch pedal to put car in gear

as soon as you do that engine starts where is the problem.??????

Some just don't like it, Sod's Law can often be in attendance with it on and off too often annoying in traffic or at briefest of stops or near stops at stops, traffic lights, give-ways, mini and full roundabouts, combined with DSG and 1.0 three pot or (?)1.5 ACT(?) engines "quirks".

Also for those with high 12v battery use, abuse or neglect possibly combined with not too frequent and short journeys 12v battery wear, tear and shorter life, sometimes only noticed after the stop/start hasn't worked when it should for a while and/or lots of unexpected dash warnings and unexpected issues.

But many/most live with it very happily and successfully, and it's a token gesture to emissions for those that want or need such.

For those that like it, or accept it great. Personally I can take it or leave it and accept those that want it and those that don't.
