Sad day yesterday

Featured Replies

My loved Skoda was ran into yesterday, I wasn't in it it was parked up on the road, a van ran into the back of another car that was pushed into mine, it wasn't nice coming back to the car and see all the mess, at least I got all the details off the other drivers, in the hands of the insurers now, she will be a write off as it has pushed the back wing in, don't know what will happen next or if I will get another Skoda, I gave it a full service last weekend as well, so this may be my last post.

Hopefully you get a decent amount for it if they right it off. Same thing happened to my folks Fabia. Postie hit it side on and bent door pillar. Saying that I was surprised how much they got for it. Insurance guy said that they tend to hold their value quite well and even he was surprised.

Before you abandon her have a word with a local body shop. There's nothing structural at risk behind the dents so they may be able to pull it straight and make it up.

The insurers should offer you a retention price to keep the car they would write off; seems to run from 1/3 to 1/4 of the write-off offer.

Such a shame. Friend of mine got offered his 2011 estate Seat for £99 and a payout. Hopefully needs a wing and front bumper only. Never knew they did things this cheap. Maybe best to not allow anyone to take car away if you want to keep.

I agree a decent body shop would be able to straighten it out as long as theres no chassis damage. Get a second hand bumper etc and repair it. Might be worth getting a few quotes to see how much including second hand bumper and paint etc.

Car going next week, insurance offered me just over £3,000 for the car I thought that was a reasonable price, just for curiosity i went on webuyanycar and that came back with a valuation of £1,425, and I've looked on autotarader and one's with similar milage sell for between £1,500 & £2,000 ish, plus it's done more damage than first thought it's pushed the front bumper forward and ripped it off the mounts, didn't notice that until yesterday when I was taking accessories off I had fitted.

Getting another car next week but sadly won't be a Skoda, going for an automatic, I've had the Skoda for 10 years covered 85,000 miles and enjoyed looking after it. So as they say a new chapter awaits.
