Potential Purchase - 2021 Kamiq - 1.0 SEL (DSG) - Anything I need to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

After many weeks of flip-flopping between Kamiq and Karoq fo my far better half, we're 99% sure on going the Kamiq route.

We've put a refundable deposit down on a vehicle to go take a look Saturday morning with the intention of purchasing if we like what we see and enjoy the test drive.

Vehicle in question is a 1.0L SEL (2021) - Seems to be standard SEL specification with the addition of the space-saver spare (something I'd have wanted to buy afterwards anyway).

35k miles - Full dealer service history, in Grey. DSG

Had a look at it's MOT history.

First MOT it had a load of advisories on Rear brakes (none of which appeared on the next MOT nearly 10k miles later)

Second MOT it managed to fail on: Offside Rear Passenger's seat backrest cannot be secured in the upright position.
Windscreen washer providing insufficient washer liquid.
Nearside Headlamp aim too high

All of the above corrected 5 days later and the current pass certificate has no advisories.

Is there anything I should be looking out for on these vehicles outside of the usual checks a layman can do - I know my way around a car to some extent, but any pointers at specifics would be great.

Cheers all for your assistance.

I bought one last year, I'll have had it 12 months by next week.

First off the rear brakes were obviously shot at 19k miles as they were replaced in February of 2024. Mines a 2020 model SE L DSG 1ltr.

I've replaced the front brakes myself and given it a service only last month, easy enough as I don't bother with dealers or anyone else touching my cars. It's just also had it's second MOT, absolutely nothing wrong and I didn't expect there to be.

The car is a great to drive, never had an auto for many years, this being the DSG it's absolutely great to drive, plenty of poke if needed especially when put in sport mode for a 1 litre. I've have no problem but for, see below.....

A word of advice, check to see if the car your buying has the SOS alarm keep showing up on the dash display. Plenty of info on this within this forum and not just on the Kamiq either.

I'm pretty sure they'll say no or I don't know what you mean. It can happen often or randomly any time between 4 week intervals or 4 month intervals. Mine started around 6 months into ownership, I only had a 3 month warranty (car supermarket type sale) and it's been annoying rather than an actual fault that prevents you driving the car. Anyways mine just resets and maybe doesn't happen again for weeks and weeks, I just put up with it. Apparently some say it needs a software update others say a new aerial module, take your pick but ask the selling dealer if it's been replaced or had all the updates before shelling out your hard earned.👍

Never had the SOS warning and mine is now over 2 years old, no software updates since new.

Time will tell.😉

Wow, mine did 2 or 3 updates within a day of driving it off the forecourt.

The SOS warning is a common issue on all VAG cars from 2020 to 2021. The fix is a combo of software and hardware replacement depending on the exact model. Ask if it's (a) ever been reported and (b) if so, has it been fixed? It'll be in the cars full digital service history so "don't know" is an unacceptable answer.

Cheers for the replies.
I'll ask them to print off the full history of the vehicle so I can see. It does sound like more of an "annoyance" over a potential reason not to go for the car by sounds. But yer - I will look into what has or hasn't been done on this.

@Stoofa

What is the Full Service History showing,

is it a history of Serviced to the Manufacturers Recommendations?

Was it Annual Oil & Filter Changes, an Inspection Service Year 2 & a Pollen Filter.

Extended Scope @ Year 3

& Brake Fluid Changed?

Any Spark Plugs changed yet. @4 years / 40,000 miles...

Maybe best do sooner rather than later.

The full electronic service history records the date, the mileage and the exact nature of the work carried out at each and every visit to a dealer. Thought you would have known that. I think your question is- does the service history part of the printout match the manufacturer recommendations.

Indeed,

So is the answer yes, the OP can maybe tell us.

Pollen filter and brake fluid done, and were the spark plugs?
