I have a problem.

Fabia Mk1 1200 3 cylinder. started misfiring/cutting out and the EPC light came on. It was coming up with codes 17580, 17952, p0221, p0123 and p0222.

I have so far, cleaned the throttle body (ran a bit better then it started cutting out again, the EPC light returned, and the codes reappeared. (I use an ANCEL VD500 reader)

I have now tried changing the throttle body, and it runs slightly better, but still chugs when you try to accelerate. On tickover it's absolutely fine!

I haven't changed the ring seal under the T/B as I couldn't get one quickly (coming on Thursday/Friday)
Now it kangaroo's just after you pull away, but the p0221, p0123 and p0222 codes don't come back up.

My other half refuses to drive it as she doesn't like kangaroo petrol.

If you do take it out for a trial run, and it starts to cough etc, if you turn off the ignition and then re-start it it clears the EPC light and carries on as if nothing happened.

Where do I go from here?

Answers please (on a plain postcard) to:

I have now tried cleaning the throttle body (no good) checking all the wiring connections (nothing seems to be amiss) changed the throttle body (STILL DOES IT) and now I have changed the throttle pedal assembly. It STILL comes up with P0123, P0222 and 17580 and 17952 codes...

What am I doing wrong?

I forgot to mention, it ticks over nice and smoothly, all 3 cylinders appear to be firing ok...

That does it, I'm going to try a new brake light switch next!

Try to disconect ignition coil to see which cylinder doesn't work. When you found it, turn the engine off, swap coils and see is it the same cylinder. If the same cylinder misfire, than do the compression test. Highly possible that valves are damaged (happens a lot on those engines)

If you see oil on your sparkplug you will also need to replace piston rings.

This is comon problem on 1.2 engine, especially on 6v engine

Does it happen while you're driving or Idling?

Hi, only happens whe we're driving.... (Tickover is as smooth as a 3 cylinder gets!)

It's not a single cylinder misfire, and it doesn't smoke..

Try to unplug the oxygen sensor and see what happens. Maybe it gives wrong information to the ecu. I had that problem on 1.4 mpi.

Also check for any vacuum leak.

I'm now getting "01314" in the fault codes (no others as yet)

It's like bashing your head against a brick wall!
