Aircon - 2017

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I had my aircon re-gassed last year and it was working perfectly, this year it isn't working, it's blowing hot air and making a hissing sound when the aircon is on and at low speeds, the hissing stops when I turn off the AC.

I've recalibrated the flaps and verified the refrigerant pressure and all appears to be ok.

Any ideas why it's blowing hot air and making a hissing sound?

Thank you

How was the refrigerant charge verified?

I just checked the refrigerant pressure in the vcds software and it’s telling it has 6bar with a temperature outside of 25 degrees, not that familiar with how this all works, so I could be wrong.

Actually, I tested it again and it’s dropped to 3.6 bar for a temp outside of 25 and when running it’s reading around 5.6, so it looks like I have a leak, funny when I checked it a few weeks ago it was measuring a lot higher, back to the garage I go for a top up, hopefully that’s what’s causing the hissing sound also 🤞🏻

A reputable AC engineer should not recharge an aircon system before locating and repairing the leak.

Hopefully the guy who gassed it last year will be able to resolve it, I think he mentioned he put some dye in it or the gas was coloured, so it shouldn't be too hard to find now, fingers crossed.
