Intermittent starting fault

Featured Replies

My First Edition 1.5 TSI etec (2024) has randomly been refusing to start. The AA and dealership have found nothing but it transpires there is a TPI in place covering this as a known fault. There's no fix and no date for when it will be fixed. The only advice is to switch the car off for 15 minutes and try again. When it does start, I now disable Start/Stop as it'd be really dangerous if the car failed to restart in traffic on a motorway, for instance.

With no fix in sight I may have to push the dealership for a refund or replacement so I'm interested to know how widespread the problem is. Anyone else here experienced it? I have found an online reference to what sounds like the same issue, which would suggest Skoda have known about it since at least November.

Shame as there's a lot to like about the car otherwise (and a couple of irritations I can live with).

Oh yes! There's a lot of discussion about this in https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/529129-cold-start-issues-with-octavia-estate-15-tsi-m-hev-2024

Although there are some off topic posts.

Although I have had this a few times it has always been after stopping the engine and locking the car. I could be wrong but I feel that it is related to the shutdown of the system. I've no worries about it being related to stop start.

Thanks. That’s an interesting read. Unfortunately, I just can’t have a car that’s unreliable so probably won’t be as patient as many people who’ve suffered the same issue. It seems I’ve been sold something that was known to be faulty by the seller and so am legally entitled to a full refund in the first 6 months. Reluctantly will probably have to go down that route rather than wait for a fix that may never materialise. Appreciate your post.

I have this problem (and many others) regularly with my Spanish registered Octavia 2024 1.5 Estate PHEV. I wish I had declared the car to be unfit for purpose and returned it for a full refund when the problem first came up. I agree with you that this is unacceptable.
