Towing 700kg load

Featured Replies

I need to collect a pizza oven, it weighs 700kg.

Is this too heavy for a 2018 skoda octavia?

Have you towed before and know how to check a vehicles permissible weights, braked /unbraked.?

I assume it is going on a Trailer, is that a Braked Trailer.

I have no doubt the trailer is capable, its a braked 4 wheel galvanised trailer.

Just not sure if 700kg is too much for the octavia

Is it your 184 bhp 2.0 TDI vRS?

No problems i would say. Have you not looked at the plate on the B Pillar?

Have you a driving licence that allows you to tow legally?

All UK standard car licences are now B+E allowing you to tow up to 3500kg without taking an additional test.

No idea. What is the unladen mass of the trailer?

As mentioned a couple of replies ago, check the permissible towing weight on the B pillar plate.

According to a number of online resources - and also on this forum - the max. towing weight of a 2018 2.0TDI is 1600kg (braked) - providing your trailer tare weight is no more than 900kg, you will be safe and legal.

Before you ask - the trailer weights should also be on a plate attached to the trailer.

I stumbled upon a weighbridge, with my empty trailer and 2018 octavia vrs, it showed a weight of 2120kg.

Not an option to unhook trailer to weigh car but i think octsvia is around 1400kg. That puts trailer at 700kg and its unbraked

I think im ok to pick up this pizza oven, its 800kg so MAM will be less than 3000kg, im allowed 3500kg

I think you are not. It is an un-brak

I must check it for brakes, ive not had it long, bought from a family member so dont have the details on it.

If i can only tow 750kg loaded then its not much use as it weighs that empty lol

Ive lifted a couple of heavy loads of timber, about 500kg and no driving issues.

It definitely hasnt electric brakes but i check around the wheels for hydraulic brakes, there is a level connected with a cable but i think thats just a handbrake to stop trailer moving when unhooked

There may be an overrun brake ?

Could be what i have. Not exactly clued in on this but i assume there should be brake pads regardless of what's in place at the hitch
